The scene opens up to the SHINING ROAD PRO-WRESTLING tiger mark logo before transitioning to the professional stare of Solomon Bentley gazing into the eager souls of viewers at home.
SOLOMON BENTLEY:
Hello everyone and welcome once again to the Shining Road Review. I’m Solomon Bentley along with my partner, Kai Harrison, and our correspondent in the field, Sue Tsuboi, who will be joining us later to break down the action. An incredible night of action as we watched the conclusion of the Shining Warriors Tag League where Hayato “Falcon” Hamada and Kaito Matsushita of the A.R.M.B.A.R. faction triumphed over the SAKURA gundan leaders of Makoto Ueno and Ikki Yanagi.
The camera pans to the ever-professional Kai Harrison.
KAI HARRISON:
It was a big night down at the Bushidokan. I think we all expected a finals match that would pit the Shining Road sekigun, represented by the Super Moto Brothers, against SAKURA gundan. But the MMA-influenced A.R.M.B.A.R. squad is a force to be reckoned with here in Shining Road and they won out against both the sekigun and SAKURA tonight. Congratulations to them for winning the Shining Warriors Tag League and becoming the 23rd GPWS Tag Team Champions.
SOLOMON BENTLEY:
And that wasn’t even the biggest surprise of the evening, was it? If you viewers at home follow the Review on social media - and I advise that you do - you’ll remember in the middle of the week we announced that the Jimmies, James Edwards and Jimmy Winner, would face off against Matt Pulver and a mystery opponent. The three aforementioned men were standing in the ring when none other than Alexander Irvine emerged from the back!
KAI HARRISON:
The look on Matt Pulver’s face when he saw that he was going to be teaming with the man who made his life a living Hell for the better half of last year... just priceless.
SOLOMON BENTLEY:
And yet despite a lot of tension, the Irvine/Pulver duo found a way to pull out the win when Irvine pinned Jimmy Winner after a brutal Evenflow DDT.
KAI HARRISON:
You could tell that Pulver and Edwards were using this match to scout out one another in preparation for their #1 contender’s bout for the King of Lions title on June 15th. A lot of chain-wrestling back and forth between those two. That match will be something to get excited about.
SOLOMON BENTLEY:
Now, as promised last week, we have some news regarding the upcoming tournament for the All-Japan Imperial Championship. Let’s bring in Sue Tsuboi via satellite who is standing outside the office of Shining Road President and Chairman, Takeo Yoshida. Sue2, welcome to the Review.
The camera pans to an empty hallway. Ms. Tsuboi stands in elegant and professional dress with a mic in here hand.
SUE TSUBOI:
Thanks for having me on, Solomon.
SOLOMON BENTLEY:
We understand that you just came out of a joint meeting between the All-Japan Sports and Wrestling Commission, President Yoshida, and Pollobucket executives. What was the result?
SUE TSUBOI:
That’s right, Solomon. As of mere moments ago, I can tell you that the All-Japan Imperial Championship is set for two months from now and will coincide with the revival of the World Pro-Wrestling Tournament.
SOLOMON BENTLEY:
For those of you at home, the World Pro-Wrestling Tournament - sponsored by the Global Pro-Wrestling Society - was a major pro-wrestling event hosted in Tokyo once every three years. Kai, I understand that you’ve competed in the tournament.
KAI HARRISON:
That’s right, I competed in both the 2008 and 2011 tournaments. The 2014 tournament was scheduled to happen but was postponed by the GPWS. I'm glad it's back, because this is a grueling week of matches. In 2011, the tournament was fought under a mix of pro-wrestling and submission wrestling rules which led to Yoshihiro Sawamura winning the entire thing.
SUE TSUBOI:
At this moment, the exact nature of the tournament is still being discussed, Kai. Because the AJSWC sponsored Imperial Championship can be contested in both pro-wrestling, MMA, vale tudo, and other formats, I think it’s safe to expect an in-depth back-and-forth regarding the rules.
SOLOMON BENTLEY:
Well, that gives us a lot to look forward to. As always, thanks to Sue2 for her fine work in the field and keep us posted with any developments.
SUE TSUBOI:
Thank you, Solomon.
The camera focus back in on Bentley.
SOLOMON BENTLEY:
Closing out the show as always, Kai will give out his Fighting Spirit Award for the week. Kai?
KAI HARRISON:
This week you gotta give it to Hayato “Falcon” Hamada. He showed a lot of grit picking up a submission victory of Takeshi Morimoto in the semi-finals and helping score A.R.M.B.A.R. a major victory tonight.
SOLOMON BENTLEY:
There you have it, folks. Tune in next week for another episode of the Shining Road Review. I’m Solomon Bentley and he’s Kai Harrison. So long!
