We open up the scene of Solomon Bentley who shuffles a stack of papers on the desk.
SOLOMON BENTLEY:
Hello everyone, and welcome to this week’s rendition of the Shining Road Review and presented by POLLOVISION. As always with my partner, Kai Harrison, we’ve got a wonderful night of shows to recap for you all. I suppose we should start before the night’s action and cut to a press conference delivered by Shining Road Pro-Wrestling President and Chairman, Takeo Yoshida. Let’s show you that footage.
Cut to Takeo Yoshida standing in a business suit in front of a podium. He wears a black business suit and speaks in Japanese, but his voice is overlayed by an English translator.
TAKEO YOSHIDA [via translator]:
In the month of August, Shining Road Pro-Wrestling’s partnership with the Global Pro-Wrestling Society and the All-Japan Sports and Wrestling Commission to bring a prestigious and uncommon event that will be viewed around the world. The World Pro-Wrestling Tournament of the GPWS will bring the best fighters from around the world to Japan in order to determine the strongest pro-wrestler. The winner will also become crowned the first All-Japan Imperial Champion. Thanks to the AJSWC providing this title, we will honor the legacy of combat sports by adjusting the tournament format to include mixed martial arts, submission shootfighting, kickboxing, and catch wrestling rules in addition to the standard pro-wrestling format. Thus, the winner of the 5th World Pro-Wrestling Tournament will truly represent the strongest and most diversely skilled fighter in pro-wrestling.
The camera returns to the studio, back to the image of Bentley.
SOLOMON BENTLEY:
There you have it, folks. The World-Pro Wrestling Tournament has been announced and, as expected, will feature a variety of formats. As a prelude over the next two months, Shining Road Pro-Wrestling will also honor the diversity of fighting styles that have contributed to pro-wrestling under the moniker of the BATTLE VARIETY series. Beginning on this evening’s show, we had three matches fought under submission shootfighting rules and they did not disappoint.
We pan over to Harrison who wears a business suit and tie with his hands clasped and sitting on the desk.
KAI HARRISON:
That’s right, Solomon. And we had an awesome series of matches tonight. If you’re not excited for the next couple months of shows, check your pulse. Because you're dead.
SOLOMON BENTLEY:
Dead, indeed. Masayoshi Arimoto scored a victory over Hajime Tanaka that showcased his amateur wrestling pedigree and some unexpected jiu-jitsu prowess while giving the sekigun a win in the main event. Yoshihiro Sawamura, representing SAKURA gundan, would defeat boxing legend Sheik Spectre earlier in the evening where it was also announced that on 7/15 will feature an MMA bout between Sawamura and Hayato “Falcon” Hamada!
KAI HARRISON:
Sawamura-san won the last World Pro-Wrestling Tournament back in 2011 fresh off winning the Southeast Asian Judo Cup and has a 2-1-1 record in MMA. Falcon Hamada, the former U.S. Navy Seal, is a well-known MMA fighter across the world and has compiled an 11-3-2 record. This match will be a fight to behold. Falcon has the advantage in MMA experience, no doubt, but this will be a highly anticipated match.
SOLOMON BENTLEY:
Tonight also saw the debut of Mark Storm in the Shining Road ring. He will be joining the roster over the month while he also competes in New Japan Fighting Championship’s Pride of Puroresu crown. BLADE Takano, however, was not one to be bested as the two men fought to a 15 minute draw!
KAI HARRISON:
I like this Mark Storm guy a lot. He has an unpredictable way about him that gave Takano trouble every time he tried to end the match.
SOLOMON BENTLEY:
We also saw a unique tag team come together with Takeshi Morimoto and HAMMERSTEIN joining forces in a match that the fans loved, didn’t they?
KAI HARRISON:
Those two young fighters have an entertaining way about them. They utilized an effective double-team maneuver, ending tonight’s match when Morimoto showcased increased strength when he lifted Ishii into a military press and dropped him down into HAMMERSTEIN’s Dropping the Hammer!
SOLOMON BENTLEY:
Quite the maneuver indeed.
KAI HARRISON:
The fans love him. Whenever Jacob Hammerstein goes back to Lion's Road, I'll miss him. However, I bet you won’t miss competition for ramen down at the Tonkatsu King.
Bentley looks into the camera.
SOLOMON BENTLEY:
Yes, Tonkatsu King: it’s spicy as f***.
Bentley smiles.
SOLOMON BENTLEY:
God, I love that promo.
Harrison can be seen shaking his head while grinning.
SOLOMON BENTLEY:
Well, it’s that time of the evening. Kai, who receives your Fighting Spirit Award tonight?
KAI HARRISON:
Tonight it’s “Mr. Meiji” Masayoshi Arimoto. He showed the world that his amateur wrestling and jiu-jitsu skills have not deteriorated since his university days over a decade ago. I can’t wait to see him in the World Pro-Wrestling Tournament.
SOLOMON BENTLEY:
Well, folks, that is all the time we have this evening. Next week will feature kickboxing bouts with a main event featuring BLADE Takano and DARK FEATHER II, wrestling under his real name of Osamu Fujiyama! Yes, the son of "Triple Crown Man" Izawa Fujiyama, Osamu-san will go to battle under the family name. Although the GPWS Jr. Heavyweight title must be fought under pro-wrestling rules, this will be a #1 contender’s match to determine champion Thunder Mask’s next challenger!
KAI HARRISON:
I can’t wait for next week to begin, Solomon. The summer has begun in earnest with some great bouts of fighting.
SOLOMON BENTLEY:
Indeed, my friend. Until next week, everyone, the Road always shines on Saturday night!
