The camera opens up to Solomon Bentley who quickly takes a sip from his black and red SHINING ROAD REVIEW coffee cup. In the background, video highlights from the night’s show can be seen.
SOLOMON BENTLEY:
Hello, everyone, and welcome to another installment of the Shining Road Review! Joined by analyst extraordinaire, Kai Harrison, we’re here tonight to break down some incredible action. Last week we announced that the main event tonight would feature a #1 Contender’s Match for the GPWS Jr. Heavyweight title that would be fought under kickboxing rules as we build up for the World Pro-Wrestling Tournament this August. BLADE Takano versus Osamu Fujiyama. Both men are former GPWS Jr. Heavyweight champions. Only one man could become the #1 Contender to face off against Thunder Mask on the 7/15 super-show. The match tonight was not about brawn and muscle, but rather heart and willpower, as both men gave a concerted effort.
KAI HARRISON:
Boy did they ever. This was a back and forth showdown. Fujiyama’s towering height meant that Takano would have to go on the offensive. The early offense from BLADE resulted in two knockdowns within the first four rounds and it appeared that he would eventually find a way to KO the man known as DARK FEATHER II.
SOLOMON BENTLEY:
But Osamu Fujiyama rallied and at one point landing a roundhouse kick to Takano’s head that sent him reeling to score his first knockdown of the night. That knockdown would be his last as the two men would engage in a slugfest of repeated kicks to the legs and by the end neither man had the knockout power remaining to bring this fight to an end in the allotted time. From there, we went to the judges where BLADE Takano was declared the victor by unanimous decision and earned a GPWS Junior Heavyweight title shot!
KAI HARRISON:
It had to be a close call for the judges, but I think having that advantage in knockdowns really sealed the deal. But both men fought incredibly hard and the crowd was standing up on their feet in applause for both fighters when the decision was announced.
SOLOMON BENTLEY:
Earlier in the evening we saw an eventful 6-man tag that marked the first time that Makoto Ueno and the Kraken have stepped in the ring together on an official basis.
KAI HARRISON:
No love lost between these two, Solomon. Ueno and the Kraken have been at odds with one another since we moved into the Bushidokan. And the action was heated tonight. At one point the Kraken slapped Ueno in the face to which the Olympian responded by picking up the Kraken for a scoop slam!
SOLOMON BENTLEY:
The ring and the fans quaked with excitement, but ultimately it wasn’t enough when Kraken powerbombed Toru Ishii, who could not walk backstage under his own power, requiring the assistance of numerous trainers.
KAI HARRISON:
You hate to see that sort of thing happen, but athletic competition always has its dangers. Hopefully he gets well soon and we see him back in the ring next week.
SOLOMON BENTLEY:
Speaking of next week, the competitive format will shift back to the ground as we will see the implementation of catch wrestling rules that will feature a highly anticipated double main event. In the first match, we will see the “super-rivalry” of Takeshi Morimoto and Ikki Yanagi become ignited once again in a match that is sure to receive a lot of attention. In the next match, we’ll see two champions of amateur wrestling take the stage. Masayoshi Arimoto, a national champion in freestyle, while go up against the Olympian Makoto Ueno, also a former national champion, who has a background in both Greco-Roman and freestyle.
KAI HARRISON:
I can’t wait for these upcoming matches. We’ve got the Super Moto Brothers representing the Shining Road sekigun in the main event against the two leaders of SAKURA gundan. You couldn’t ask for bigger matches, it’s gonna be a raucous crowd next week.
SOLOMON BENTLEY:
That it will. As we conclude the show… wait a minute…
Bentley presses two fingers to his ear as he listens to the feed from the producers.
SOLOMON BENTLEY:
Hold on just a minute, folks. We are getting breaking news about next week’s show. I’ve just received official word that on next week’s show we’re scheduled to have another kickboxing match. Jimmy Winner will make his return to Shining Road. And he’ll be fighting…
He stares into the camera.
SOLOMON BENTLEY:
… Julian Cutlass.
KAI HARRISON:
This is huge news, Solomon. With Lion’s Road Pro-Wrestling breaking for a couple weeks, the King of Lions Champion will be in the building and competing under Shining Road for the first time next week. He must’ve gotten jealous of Alexander Irvine. Julian Cutlass is one of the best strikers in the business and he got his start in amateur kickboxing during his youth. You have to wonder how Jimmy Winner, who has more of a traditional wrestling background, will be able to compete against him.
SOLOMON BENTLEY:
What an announcement. Next week somehow just got even more exciting. Quickly, Kai, who receives the Fighting Spirit Award tonight?
KAI HARRISON:
I gotta give it up to Osamu Fujiyama, the man we know around here under the mask as DARK FEATHER II. He put his family name on the line and even in a losing effort heroically represented his father and the entirety of Fujiyama Dojo.
SOLOMON BENTLEY:
Heroic, indeed. Well that concludes the Shining Road Review this evening. To all the viewers at home and on the web, we’ll catch you next week further on up the road. Thanks for being with us.
