We open to Solomon Bentley shuffling papers on the desk.
SOLOMON BENTLEY:
Greetings, everyone and welcome to the Shining Road Review! Saturday Night is apparently all right for fighting and boxing was the sport of choice this evening. Boxing extraordinaire and former Light Heavyweight Champion Masahiro Fujita made short work of Kishin Nozaki, but we had some great bouts after that, didn’t we, Kai?
KAI HARRISON:
That’s right. Kazuo Inoue KO’d Zen Hayashi in the first round with a deep right hook.
SOLOMON BENTLEY:
Let’s go to the footage. Here’s Tim Floss and Albert Mordecai with the call this evening.
We return to the feed into the Review studio.
SOLOMON BENTLEY:
The referee would examine Zen Hayashi and determine that he was unfit to continue and that match was called in the first round.
KAI HARRISON:
Inoue has been fighting for years. For Zen Hayashi, I just hope he doesn’t give up after a bad outcome like that.
SOLOMON BENTLEY:
This was the polar opposite of our main event when boxing extraordinaire Sheik Spectre would take on NOVA division member Akira Nakamura. This fight would go into the 8th round when Nakamura would finally run out of gas and after getting knocked down three times, the referee was forced to call the fight.
KAI HARRISON:
This Nakamura guy is a tough customer, but Sheik Spectre has boxed for a long time and as a deathmatch champion, is an unusually hard guy to overcome.
SOLOMON BENTLEY:
Earlier in the night we saw the Kraken in action, except this time he came with a friend from Buck U Productions! Another gigantic specimen, Iron Mack Brody, graced the stage and together the two of them defeated Hajime Tanaka and Toru Ishii!
KAI HARRISON:
After that performance, you’d expect to see them show up in the GPWS Tag Team Championship picture. That’s a lot of bacon in the ring, Solomon.
SOLOMON BENTLEY:
A lot of bacon, indeed. We also saw two members of the popular BLACK Lion’s Road faction who fought last week under kickboxing rules, Julian Cutlass and Jimmy Winner, team up tonight with Takeshi Morimoto of the Shining Road sekigun to defeat Ikki Yanagi’s team Satoshi Kamakura and David Lee Sellers, the latter two men will face off on next week’s show. Morimoto put down Kamakura with his patented Volcanic Buster.
KAI HARRISON:
BLACK Lion’s Road is still popular here in Japan ever since that Tokyo ROAR tour last summer. And look, that Takeshi Morimoto looks better each and every time I see him out there. You gotta love watching the rising stars on this roster!
SOLOMON BENTLEY:
Tonight we also received news about the participants in the upcoming World Pro-Wrestling Tournament. Sixteen men will enter and only one can win the weeklong tournament and become crowned the All-Japan Imperial Champion.
SOLOMON BENTLEY:
Kai, what’s your take on the participants?
KAI HARRISON:
You couldn’t ask for more, Solomon. You’ve got the best fighters of Shining Road all lined up. I was surprised to see Takeda “Sniper” Izumi get a shot right out of the gates, but I suppose his reputation precedes him and he will be fighting on the 7/15 show against Toru Ishii under MMA rules. So, we’ll get a good idea of what he’s all about. I think that the Kraken is a guy to watch out for. He’s a big, big fella and the winner of the NOVA Cup is gonna have his hands full in that first round!
SOLOMON BENTLEY:
Now, to let you folks know about the format of the tournament, it will proceed in the following manner.
SOLOMON BENTLEY:
The tournament will begin and end with the pro-wrestling format while the middle rounds will spice things up. The match-type of the quarter-finals will be determined at random after the opening round so the fighters have no time to prepare. In the semi-finals, we’ll return to pro-wrestling rules and the finals will be decided under MMA!
KAI HARRISON:
The 2011 World Pro-Wrestling Tournament was similarly grueling where the middle rounds were all fought under submission rules. Now that they’re including the striking format and MMA, this tournament just gotten even more difficult.
SOLOMON BENTLEY:
We’re still a month away, but each day that draws nearer gets more and more exciting by the minute. But here tonight, Kai, who wins your Fighting Spirit Award?
KAI HARRISON:
Gotta be Sheik Spectre. The guy caught an unexpectedly tough test this evening in the young upstart from the NOVA division, but he rallied back and won out.
SOLOMON BENTLEY:
Well done, Sheik Spectre. Next week will feature a mix of freestyle and submission wrestling with several competitors to include Jimmy Winner, Shigeru Toyama, Satoshi Kamaura, and David Lee Sellers among others! This will be the penultimate event in the BATTLE VARIETY SERIES leading up to the big 7/15 show.
KAI HARRISON:
Also remember we’re going to have the NOVA Cup the week after 7/15 on a night that will showcase the youth movement here in Shining Road.
SOLOMON BENTLEY:
Well, folks, that is all the time we have tonight. Tune in next week to another episode of the Shining Road Review. You won’t wanna miss it!

Let’s go to the footage. Here’s Tim Floss and Albert Mordecai with the call this evening.
The nimble, lighter Kazuo Inoue dances forward wearing the blue-and-white trunks and burnt orange hair. The taller heavyweight, Hayashi, sports black trunks and a black goatee. Hayashi lurches forward.
TIM FLOSS:
These two have spent a lot of time dancing.
ALBERT MORDECAI:
At some point, they’ve got to mix it up, Timmy.
Hayashi gets aggressive, taking a step forward. Kazuo Inoue ducks a huck and delivers A PERFECTLY PLACED UPPERCUT INTO THE JAW! He follows up with another strike to the head as Hayashi goes down!! Hayashi is stunned. The ref begins the standing 8 count!
