We open in the studio to the Review duo.
SOLOMON BENTLEY:
Hello everyone and welcome to the Shining Road Review! We are back from the Mirai Dome across town and the action continues with the SPIRIT REVIVAL tour following an epic World Pro-Wrestling Tournament that saw Makoto Ueno defeat Takeshi Morimoto under MMA rules to become the first All-Japan Imperial Champion!
KAI BENTLEY:
A memorable final to the Tournament. Give it up to Morimoto. I’m sure his uncle, Keiji-san, was proud of his effort. But Ueno? That guy’s special. SAKURA gundan has the gold right now and the sekigun is on the outside looking in.
SOLOMON BENTLEY:
Ueno's win has led speculation to who will fight him next. There’s a lot of rumors floating about these days. Some have said that the sekigun will send Masayoshi Arimoto, Takeshi’s tag team partner, to challenge for the title despite losing to Ueno during the tournament semifinals. The All-Japan Sports and Wrestling Commission is said to have tossed about the name of Lion’s Road Pro-Wrestling’s Julian Cutlass, the man who just defended the world-famous King of Lions Championship for a record V7 defense, has been thrown about because he fought Ueno to a fifteen-minute time limit draw during the BATTLE VARIETY tour. Falcon Hamada, whose spirited performance in the semifinals impressed us all, also stands as a contender.
KAI HARRISON:
All three men would put up a great fight. The real question is what format would you fight under? Remember, the All-Japan Imperial Championship can be contested under both pro-wrestling rules as well as catch wrestling, kickboxing, MMA, you name it! Arimoto would probably favor the pro-wrestling format given his assortment of suplexes and drivers, but guys like Cutlass and Hamada would likely prefer to put on the gloves. The All-Japan Sports and Wrestling Commission would like to see the title defended across multiple formats on a regular basis, so don't discount the possibility of those two contending.
SOLOMON BENTLEY:
An interesting point. Also, in October we will be presenting the annual Sword of Lite Grand Prix – a round-robin tournament that will feature the best junior heavyweights that we have to offer. Word on the street is that Shining Road may look outside the promotion for fighters. What could that mean? We expect to get an announcement next week – so stay tuned, folks!
KAI HARRISON:
Before we go off the air, I wanna give the Fighting Spirit Award tonight to toughman Hidehiko Nagata. He showed in the main event tonight that he still has that Crimson gusto, putting away Ikki Yanagi with the Crimson Killer, a beautiful flying knee strike! Keep it up, old man!
