BRIEF HISTORY -
A pro wrestling fan from a young age, Matt started training BJJ and Amateur wrestling in his younger days in Leksand, Sweden. At age 16 he moved to Minnesota to begin professional wrestling training. After a year on the local indie scene, he moved to Tokyo to further his training. In May 2016, he moved back to the States to work for Lion's Road. In his first year in Lion's Road, he made himself a name as a skilled and resilient fighter who could hang with the best of them, specifically through his gruelling matches with the likes of Ben Chrenshaw and Alexander Irvine.
PREVIOUS INJURIES -
He's had some minor neck injuries, but nothing that has affected him long-term at this stage of his career.
STRENGTHS -
1. Strategy - A true tactician and a student of a game, he will have several strategies up his sleeves, tailor-made to his opponent and for seemingly any situation that may arise.
2. Heart - When he has his mind set and is determined to win, he will fight like his life depended on it, refusing to quit or stay down no matter what.
3. Adaptive Fighting Style - With his focus on counter- and catch wrestling, as well as his meticulously thought-out strategies, he can adapt well to any opponent.
WEAKNESSES -
1. Size - At just 190 lbs, he's one of the smallest and one of the least powerful men on the roster.
2. Over-analyzing - Sometimes his affinity for planning and strategizing can cause him to over-analyze situations either not acting fast enough or simply trying something too complicated. His desire to uphold honor is often a big reason for his over-thinking.
3. Difficult Fighting Style - While his fighting style is very flexible, it's also very difficult to master and one small mistake or miscalculation can backfire greatly.
SPORTSMANSHIP -
Holds sportsmanship and honor very highly, so will shake hands (unless there's a lot of animosity between him and his opponent) and will always try to play within the rules. He always seeks decisive victories and doesn't want to win by doctor stoppage, and will usually try to decline the win or offer a rematch.
FIGHTING STYLE -
-Technical wrestling - His main assets are his speed and chain-wrestling-savvy, which take the form of lightning-quick transitions and reversals. Will often try to catch opponents off-guards with complex pinning combinations or stretches, especially less grappling-savvy opponents.
-Submission - He has many effective holds in his arsenal, which he often set up with his aforementioned chain wrestling sequences. During matches he’ll often pick an arm or a leg on the opponent to work over with various holds, to wear them down for a submission attempt. With large opponents, kick-specialists and flyers, he generally targets the legs - and with power-based opponents, boxers and submissions specialists he generally target the arms.
-Striking - He is very resilient and can take a beating, and will not shy away from using strikes when needed. While they're not the strongest part of his game, he has learned how to pick his moments to make his strikes count, focusing more on precision rather than raw power.
SIGNATURE MOVES -
1. Cross Armbreaker, often as a counter or a transition from other moves
2. Bridging German Suplex, sometimes preceded by a Chaos Theory-style Oklahoma Roll, or transitioned into a Super Delfin-style reverse rolling prawn hold, or executed with a Straight Jacket for added leverage
3. Matt Trap (He grabs opponent's both wrists, crosses the arms, steps over the arms and, with his back turned and the arms still grabbed, performs a victory roll, transitioning into a Delfin Clutch)
4. Matt Trap II (Dos Caras Clutch)
5. Hammer of Thor (Rip-cord Rolling Elbow), sometimes transitioned into a Matt Trap II, or done without the rip-cord to an upcoming opponent
6. Pulverizer (Sol Naciente/Sol Naciente Kai) - Rarely used but highly effective submission finisher
FAVOURITE MOVES -
1. Bridging Northern Lights Suplex, sometimes rolled into another Northern Lights or transitioned into a Cross Armbreaker
2. Rolling Heel Hook
3. Triangle Choke, sometimes transitioned into a modified frankensteiner with the hold still locked in
4. Kimura, sometimes with headscissors (AT Lock)
5. Half-hatch Suplex, sometimes with a float-over into a pin or a hold
6. Guillotine Choke
7. Modified Octopus Stretch, sometimes with a double wrist-lock or an added leg-lock
8. Short Arm Scissors
9. Omoplata, usually combined with a neck crank, a leg lock or some sort of arm lock on the free arm
10. Crucifix Pin
11. Standing Double Foot Stomp, usually to an arm or a leg
12. Dropkick, sometimes to a knee or a shoulder
COUNTER MOVES -
1. Victory Roll followed by a standing Double Foot Stomp
2. Various types of arm-based takedowns into a Cross Armbreaker
3. Gannosuke Clutch
TAUNTS -
-Clapping his hands to get the crowd going
-Raising a fist or point one finger up in the air to fire up the crowd
-Doing warm-ups and stretches before the match and sometimes during the match if he feels that his opponent is stalling or not taking him seriously
