Hello everyone, it’s your favorite broadcastman, Solomon Bentley! We’re all still reeling from the epic Sword of Lite Grand Prix finale that saw Matt Pulver take home the katana as well as the MAX-J Junior Heavyweight Championship.
But all is not rosy along the Shining Road.
With the announcement of Alexander Irvine making his V1 defense of the recently reacquired GPWS Heavyweight title versus Demon Lord Zenki at MJPW’s HOLY MOUNTAIN event on 11/30, Shining Road President Takeo Yoshida demanded that the title bout be moved to Shining Road’s planned return on 12/2 and the contender be a member of the Shining Road roster and not MJPW's Zenki. This has the makings of a possible rift between President Yoshida and the GPWS, the governing body for Shining Road’s championships, with the notable exception being the Imperial Championship, governed by the All-Japan Sports and Wrestling Commission (AJSWC).
Speaking of the AJSWC, they are not happy that the GPWS Heavyweight title is no longer in the hands of Flex Montana. The AJSWC originally agreed to commission the All-Japan Imperial Championship to become the centerpiece of Shining Road and serve as a vehicle for its foray into shootfighting competition. Now that the GPWS title has the possibility of being returned to Shining Road, the AJSWC is worried that their title will fall into a second-tier status.
As a result the AJSWC has threatened to sever its relationship with Pollobucket and Shining Road. In fact, rumor has it that GPWS allowed Zenki a shot at the title instead of a Shining Road fighter in order to appease the AJSWC! There were rumors the AJSWC planned a mixed martial arts (MMA) tournament in early 2018, but these talks are now on hold.
Makoto Ueno, the current All-Japan Imperial Champion, has stated that he will continue to defend the title “regardless” of the AJSWC’s affiliation with Shining Road. As the Leader of SAKURA gundan, Ueno has led the charge against Shining Road leadership. So, it’s no surprise that he stands by the AJSWC.
There is much more to unfold in this saga! Everyone stay tuned!
