REAL NAME -
David Roger Troy, Jr.
STAGE NAME -
David Troy
NICKNAME(S) -
”Dynamite” (current)
Wildstar D (used in Pollomania, now retired)
HEIGHT & WEIGHT -
5’10”, 202 pounds.
DATE OF BIRTH -
October 24, 1980 (age 37)
PLACE OF BIRTH -
Camden, NJ
FIGHTS OUT OF -
Blackwood, NJ
YEAR OF DEBUT -
1997
ALIGNMENT -
5-6. Troy is still the angry, resentful, goal-driven son of a bitch who stopped caring about how the fans saw him; ironically, this change of attitude and in-ring approach, combined with his efforts to drive back more malevolent forces like the WALL as well as his performances in critical matches since his transformation, has endeared him to the Lion’s Road crowd again.
PERSONALITY -
Bitterness. Hate. Anger. Frustration.
These are the things that made David Troy switch to wearing the black hat. Sick of having to rely on external circumstances for opportunities, and of walking the straight and narrow path to no success, he has decided to take his career in his own hands. Gone is the roaming warrior who sought the thrill of the battle; in his place is an angry man who knows his career is winding down, and is willing to do whatever it takes to be a champion. He doesn’t go out of his way to antagonize the crowd, but he also makes no effort to win over those who just don’t like him.
EQUIPMENT -
Green and black two-tone trunks (think the kind Samoa Joe wears or KENTA used to wear), with Troy’s name written in green on the black side in Thai writing. Patent black Asami kick pads, knee pads, elbow pads, and boots.
CASUAL ATTIRE -
Casual, simple, minimalist almost. Inspired by the working-class aesthetic of hardcore punk.
WALKOUT ATTIRE -
Generally he usually comes out wearing his ring gear and nothing else.
WALKOUT THEME -
“Death Threat” by Death in Vegas
ALLIES/RIVALS -
ALLY 1: BAM MARKHAM. His primary partner in the Dangerous Mix. They had a VERY strong animosity towards one another at first, but the arrival of the WALL lead them to discover they had common goals in mind, and decide to join forces.
ALLY 2: MUSHIGIHARA. A former tag team partner and bitter rival from promotions past. Troy called the former sumo wrestler to Lion’s Road as backup against a possible WALL sneak attack, but he is also a very capable wrestler and hoss who Troy trusts with his life.
RIVAL 1: The WALL, collectively. David stands against them because their goals of conquering Lion’s Road ideologically/politically clash with his own goals of conquering it competitively. Also, while Troy keeps his own (far) leftist views under his vest most times, he also thinks their militaristic trappings are disingenuous at best and pandering at worst.
RIVAL 2: AJ Knight. David HAAAAAAAAAAAATES Knight. He thinks he’s a hack who lucked his way into his reign as KOL champion, and loves to antagonize him however possible. He has some respect for Knight’s partner and mentor Ben Chrenshaw, but to him Knight is nothing but a fuckboy.
BRIEF HISTORY -
.
PREVIOUS INJURIES -
Broken ankle. Cracked ribs. Rhabdomyolysis brought on by a severe beating. Also, ruptured liver and spleen from the same beat down. Cracked shins from Muay Thai-related injuries. Busted knees. Two major concussions.
STRENGTHS/WEAKNESSES -
S1: Striking acumen. His background in kickboxing has gifted him with many, many ways of hurting you with his arms and legs. His knees and shins are especially nasty, given his experience in proper Muay Thai, but he is also competent throwing elbows.
S2: Low risk. Especially since his heel turn, Troy VERY seldomly leaves his feet, and almost never scales the ropes anymore. The most he’ll do is take to the second rope to get some more height on a stomp or something. He focuses on causing pain, not getting pops.
S3: Killer Instinct. One of the traits he was said to have lacked as a face has finally arrived with a vengeance. His ring savvy is his greatest asset, and he knows everything from when he can get away with an extra cherry tap to a downed opponent, to where he can get that extra chokehold in away from the referee’s eyes, to when to finally put a bow on the match and finish his opponent off.
W1: Injuries. This much is obvious. He’s no spring chicken anymore, and the rash of injuries he has acquired include some nasty ones that almost killed him.
W2: Spite Makes Right? David Troy is the kind of man who will fight an opponent he knows outmatches him and can work around his bag of tricks (dirty and otherwise), take the mother of all assbeatings, and still find a way to dig down and pull himself back up to his feet; not just out of a belief that the fight isn’t over, but also out of pure hate and spite. As you can imagine, this leads to the potential for even more injuries. Old habits die hard.
W3: Easy to frustrate. Troy is finally in a position to get what he wants and he won’t let YOU take it away from him, Goddammit. If an opponent is giving him a hard time, he will start acting even more aggressive out of anger, which can open him up either to being carded by the red or leaving an open gap his opponent can use to their advantage.
SPORTSMANSHIP -
Out the window since his heel turn. He won’t go out of his way to break the rules, but also won’t let them get in his way. His offense is now based on the concept of pain and inflicting as much damage and pain as possible, and get every bit of leverage and flex to each rule as possible.
FIGHTING STYLE -
Pure, hateful, strike-based. As a former pro kickboxer with two black belts, Troy had plenty of time to turn his limbs into deadly weapons. Since his heel turn, he has also stripped away just about all vestiges of his junior-heavyweight/lucharesu influences, opting for methodical, brutal punishment. He will attack joints liberally, and also try to hammer his opponent’s core.
SIGNATURE MOVES -
~ Running corner big boot (Helluva Kick)
~ Flashbang (spinning back kick; Aleister Black’s Black Mass. Troy’s primary finishing blow.)
~ Backslide pin; since turning heel, he is not above pulling this out after a low blow.
~ Blazing Star Strike (Busaiku Knee Kick)
~ Octopus Hold (also uses a grounded variation)
~ Shining Enzuigiri. An old finishing move of his makes a comeback.
FAVOURITE MOVES -
~ Enzuigiri
~ Leg lariat
~ Knee strikes from a Muay Thai clinch
~ Deep bridge German suplex
~ Baseball slide
~ Inverted stomp facebreaker (Gail Kim’s Eat Defeat, Chuck Taylor’s Sole Food)
~ Standing drop kick to the face, ribs, or knees
~ Shoot/roundhouse kicks
~ Rolling elbow
~ Front chancery DDT
~ Tiger Leg Sweep (side headlock, spun around into a drop toe hold)
~ Side Russian Leg Sweep (mainly used as a setup for the grounded Octopus hold)
COUNTER MOVES -
~ Leg lariat in response to an Irish whip
~ Countering an attempted powerbomb with a huracanrana pin
~ Countering a suplex or scoop slam attempt with a small package rollup
TAUNTS -
~ BEFORE A MATCH: Standing still and staring at his opponent. Gone is the traditional pre-match wai kru dance.
~ AS ALLOWED: lazily laying across the ropes in the corner ala Eddie Guerrero
~ CELEBRATING A VICTORY: staring at his fallen opponent in contempt, if not outright continuing to punish them.
