Night 2 of the 2018 Laurentide Cup took place before a packed crowd in Ajax. President Mandeville Nelson stated that since AJ Knight and Bam Markham main evented yesterday's event, the two men would be in the first and second matches respectively for tonight's card.
In the opening bout, the King of Lions Champion AJ Knight battled an angry Zenki. The Japanese Demon Lord was not pleased about losing to Billy Danielson on Thursday and wanted to send a message to everyone in the Laurentide Cup by dispatching the World's Champion. Zenki attacked the legs of AJ relentlessly - using the Romero Special and figure four leg lock on multiple occasions to enhance his attack. Zenk even tried to lock AJ in a Dragon sleeper while he had him trapped in the Romero Special, but the King of Lions broke free. Zenki hurried to his feet, beating AJ back to the vertical base and charged into the ropes - looking to land the Zanbato and he did, but on the corner turnbuckles after Knight dropped out of harm's way. Zenki hit hard and left himself open to a folding press for the three count fall. After the match, Zenki was disgusted by the method in which AJ won the match - saying that champions should win definitively.
Justin Seville had hoped to use the Laurentide Cup to bounce back from his loss to Matt Pulver at the Second Anniversary Spectacular, but after dropping his opening night match to Mike Musket, he was today beaten by the Heritage Heavyweight Champion Bam Markham. Seville tried a methodical approach, but couldn't contend with the wild style of the Big Bull from Boulder and fell victim to a Bam Bomb.
Seattle Pro's Billy Danielson entered his match with Mike Musket with three years experience to the former MAX Heavyweight Champion's thirty six. Despite the experience difference, the size difference wasn't much at all - Danielson and Musket weigh the same but the GOAT is three inches taller. The two engaged in a technical showdown that nearly went the full fifteen minutes - many fans even thinking it would go to a draw but with two minutes left on the clock, Musket was trapped in the Billhook - Danielson's Shining Triangle. However, Musket was able to stack Danielson and pin his shoulders to the mat for the huge win! The Ajax crowd stood and cheered for the Musket 'upset' on Danielson. When asked about the loss, Danielson was just happy it happened in a podunk like Ajax - so no one would see it.
"Juneau" Pat Cross and Alexander Irvine locked horns next with the former King of Lions looking to extract revenge after falling to the Alaskan native in his debut back in April. Despite Irvine's best efforts, his offense was thwarted at every turn! Cross began throwing Irvine around like very few men have or can in Lion's Road. Cross nailed two consecutive German suplexes on the Unnatural and was looking for a third when the two hooded figures from Thursday night attacked him - ending the match in a disqualification. They revealed themselves to be Carl Whitaker and Hammerstein! The Ajax crowd wasn't quite sure what to make of this alliance, but booed them anyway. Pat Cross recovered and chased them off, threatening to dismantle all three if he had to in his post match interview.
Joe Stanton and Matt Pulver had an interesting bout. The first five minutes or so consisted of Pulver giving Stanton fits with his ground work before the Scarlet Speedster came back with a power move. Stanton's slight size advantage proved to be a difference maker especially the longer the match went, as it became apparent that Pulver was banged up from his draw with David Troy on Thursday. Pulver tried to go for a Victory roll but wound up on the wrong end of the Icon Driver, giving Stanton six points in the tournament thus far.
In the main event, GRIM was treated as the fan favourite by the Ajax crowd. David Troy was not at all pleased with that and told the fans to shove it as he walked out for his match. GRIMMY Winner and Jin Hirai were sent to the back early in the match because they would not decide who would stay at ringside and who would return to the back - Laurentide Athletic Commission rules state only one second can be at ringside at a time. GRIM didn't seem too bothered by his lackeys leaving and continued fighting, showing off skills that make it easy to see why he's beaten the likes of Julian Cutlass, Alexander Irvine, James Edwards and Matt Pulver. Troy displayed his mean streak, using shortcuts to get under the skin of the World Tag Champion. In the closing moments, GRIM tried for his signature GRIM Clutch but Troy countered it and clamped on the Octopus hold and began driving his heel into GRIM's skull. With no intelligent defense from GRIM, referee Cordell Garner was forced to stop the match. When asked if he'd consider finding a partner to try and challenge GRIM and Tokyo Zombie for the tag belts, he just laughed and left.
