SAM HEWITT

From the Brew City! Milwaukee, Wisconsin! Hello wrestling fans and welcome to the Summer Series finale - LR 104! I'm Sam Hewitt and alongside me as always is Brian Shelzi. Brian, tell us about tonight's main event.

BRIAN SHELZI

It's one that's been a long time coming! AJ Knight and Matt Pulver were friends and teammates just one year ago, teaming up to compete in the Summer Tag League. This year, I don't even think they tell each other happy birthday on Facebook. The World's title is on the line in tonight's first time ever meeting in singles action between the two. AJ's fourth defense, Pulver's fifth challenge since June 2016. I said it on my show - you can take a lot of crap about Pulver being a choke artist, but so too was AJ before he won the big one.

SAM HEWITT

Also on tonight's card, David Troy and Bam Markham - the Dangerous Mix are challenging for the WALL's Heritage Tag Team titles. Hammerstein and Carl Whitaker making their first defense since winning the belts two weeks ago in Waukegan. This is a tough first test.

BRIAN SHELZI

Yeah, it is, but Troy and Markham... that's not a tag team - it's an alliance. Hammer and Whitaker know how to function as a team, how to cast the egos aside and work for the greater good of a team. Can Troy and Bam do the same?

SAM HEWITT

And in just a few moments, we'll see Alexander Irvine lock horns with Ben Chrenshaw. These two men have fought twice before including once over the Heritage Heavyweight title, that particular match ended in a double count out. Their second encounter never officially got started as Chrenshaw walked out before the match. That's another story for another day...

The fans pop huge as Julian Cutlass is shown sitting in the crowd.

SAM HEWITT

Look who it is! Mr. 448 himself, the former KOL World's Champion... the most successful champion EVER in Lion's Road - Julian Cutlass!

Cutlass stands up and waves to show his appreciation before sitting back down.

Alexander Irvine is shown walking down a hallway to the ring on the left half of the split screen, Ben Chrenshaw is on the other. Although there is no sound due to the music imposed over the scene, you can see something has caught Chrenshaw's attention as he stops abruptly. The split screen goes full screen and the audio kicks back in.

“Always the bridesmaid, never the bride.”

Chrenshaw cranes his neck to the left and sees none other than Justin Seville leaning up against the wall, tossing a poker chip between his hands. Chrenshaw eyes Seville suspiciously, then a smirk forms on the Crippler's face.

"What, that from the least successful member of the WALL?"

Seville ignores the comment.

“I feel bad for you, Ben. You used to be THE CRIPPLER. You would strike fear into everyone in Lion’s Road. You were one of the fiercest competitors in this company’s history. Hell, you even submitted the great Julian Cutlass. But now? Now you are more or less a sidekick to AJ Knight. You help him survive. You are the only reason he is still here.”

Chrenshaw doesn't look amused.

"Do you have something else to put though that forked tongue or am I going to have to put you in your place?"

“Ben... let me ask you this.”

Seville calmly walks closer to Chrenshaw. He places the poker chip in his pocket.

“For all the times you have aided Knight... from stopping me from spiking him on his head on the concrete floor... from helping him retrieve the World’s Championship from the WALL... you have been his greatest asset; his greatest weapon. So tell me Ben... when has AJ Knight ever really been there for you? What has he saved you from? Other than your continued success, I mean.

Hell... you need only look back to the Tag Team Gauntlet... Knight got HIMSELF eliminated to save himself for his title match with Matt Pulver. AJ Knight is only about himself. He doesn’t care what happens to you, Ben. So why do you care what happens to him?

Think about it.”

Seville pats Chrenshaw on the shoulder as he walks past, leaving the Crippler to ponder what's been said to him as we go to break.

BRADY ROSSEN

This opening bout is to be fought over a fifteen minute time limit with one fall, one submission or a knockout to decide the winner! Introducing first fighting out of Keokuk, Iowa! He weighs in at two hundred and thirty pounds! ALEXANDER IRVINE!

Irvine steps forward, raising his arm.

BRADY ROSSEN

His opponent fighting out of London, England! He weighs in at two hundred and thirteen pounds! BEN CHRENSHAW!

Chrenshaw's smirk is replaced by a stern look across the ring.

BRADY ROSSEN

Your referee for this bout is Robbie Morris!

Morris calls for the bell and the two former partners circle around before locking-up, Irvine pulls his arm free and pushes his forearm up into Chrenshaw's chin as he backs him into the ropes. Irvine pats the Crippler's chest as he backs away, Morris not even needing to begin a count for the break. Chrenshaw comes roaring off the ropes with a forearm shot, dropping Irvine to the mat and sending him rolling out to the floor. Irvine tries to take a lap to shake off the effects of the shot, but Chrenshaw's hot on his trail! He grabs Irvine by the shoulder and spins him around to blast him with a right hand!

SAM HEWITT

Fans and critics alike have said that the fire has gone out in Ben Chrenshaw, that he's nothing more than a hanger-on to the World's Champion... and it looks to me like the Crippler came here to prove them wrong!

BRIAN SHELZI

I invited him to so I'm here to see me get proven wrong.

Chrenshaw points to Shelzi then blasts Irvine with another right hand before shoving him back inside the ring. Chrenshaw slides back inside and ducks Irvine's attempt at a lariat, Chrenshaw springs off the ropes and nails a beautiful calf kick on the General of the WALL! He covers!

2-NO!

Chrenshaw pulls Irvine up and tries to lock on a side headlock, but Irvine pushes him off. Chrenshaw hits the ropes and tries to spring off, but Justin Seville at ringside tries to grab his foot. Chrenshaw turns around and kicks at him, Robbie Morris ejects Justin Seville! Seville protests as security leads him away. Chrenshaw smirks, but turns around into a flying knee strike from the former World's Champion! Chrenshaw falls onto his hands and knees and Irvine gets into side control, driving a hook into the right side of Chrenshaw's face. He hammers him with a few more before switching to north-south and driving a knee straight into the top of Chrenshaw's head! He delivers a second, Chrenshaw more or less blocks it and pulls back to safety. Irvine backs up and smiles...

SAM HEWITT

Blood is pouring down the face of Ben Chrenshaw! The knee strike to the top of the head has opened up quite the cut!

BRIAN SHELZI

And he doesn't have AJ Knight out here to kiss it better! What a shame.

SAM HEWITT

AJ's absence can be easily explained. He has a big World's title bout this evening and I don't think you'd find any champion or challenger for that matter out here in the corner of a partner on such a night.

Irvine rushes Chrenshaw in the corner, battering him with shots in an attempt to open up the cut even more. Chrenshaw falls down to his knees over the middle rope, the Unnatural kicks at him a few times before Robbie Morris pulls him away. Chrenshaw tries to get up, but Irvine hits a push kick that dumps Chrenshaw to the apron. He rolls to the floor and Irvine wastes no time being upset about a yellow card, instead opting to follow the Crippler out. He grabs the guardrail and steps on Chrenshaw's head, pressing all of his weight down onto it. Morris gives him a count, but Irvine stops at four before pulling Chrenshaw up. He fakes like he's going to throw him back in the ring, but changes directions and smashes the English born fighter off the ring post! Irvine rolls Chrenshaw back inside the ring and turns around to acknowledge a fan who calls him a 'roided freak... by telling the fan to tell his mother he'll wear these fight shorts to bed any night of the week for her.

BRIAN SHELZI

Hah!

SAM HEWITT

Irvine's got Chrenshaw battered pretty good right now but it's probably not a wise idea to take your eyes of--just as I said!

Chrenshaw cracks Irvine as he's coming back in, he grabs him in a clinch and drills him with knees as he backs him up into the corner. Chrenshaw finishes the sequence off with a double knee to the head! Irvine snaps back into the corner... Chrenshaw drives his bloody head into Irvine's! Both men are covered in blood now, but just how much of Chrenshaw's is on Irvine is hard to differentiate! Chrenshaw steps aside as Irvine falls forward to the mat, Chrenshaw kicks him over onto his back and exits to the apron. The Crippler wipes some blood away from his eyes before he grabs the top rope and corner post and begins climbing. Irvine recovers and tries to charge up and wrap his arms around the former Heritage Champion, but Chrenshaw slams his head into Irvine's again! Irvine teeters precariously... Chrenshaw grabs him and goes to do it again...

BUT THE TOP ROPE BREAKS!

The fans gasp as Irvine falls first, Chrenshaw thuds to the mat as Morris holds his hands to his head in shock. He looks around, unsure what to do... so he begins counting!

Irvine grabs the middle rope and gets to his knees, but releases it and crawls a bit further.

6...

7...

Chrenshaw rolls over.

8...

Irvine makes it to the corner and grabs the ropes, pulling himself up.

9...

10!

The bell sounds! Irvine falls back into the corner and Morris checks him out while medic staff tends to Chrenshaw.

SAM HEWITT

We need a replay - what the hell happened?

A replay is shown.

BRIAN SHELZI

Well, you got Chrenshaw perched on top and Irvine's comes up with one foot on the middle rope, one on the top. He starts teetering off, Chrenshaw grabs him and pulls him back in to deliver the headbutt. Snap goes the turnbuckle and Irvine has a pretty safe fall, Chrenshaw goes hard to the mat not unlike a normal mishap but he had no time to prepare for that fall. That sucks for Chrenshaw big time, he looked impressive in this match and fate had other ideas, I guess.

AJ Knight comes sprinting down to the ring, sliding in to check on his stablemate. Chrenshaw confirms he's OK just as Irvine darts at AJ, forcing the champion to take a defensive stance. Irvine laughs as he stops and rolls out. AJ shakes his head, staring down the General of the WALL - not seeing Chrenshaw's hand extended. AJ looks down, apologizes and helps pull Chrenshaw to his feet. Irvine raises his arms, Seville comes out and pats his teammate on the back as we go to break.

Showing up backstage as the cameras cut to the parking garage is Jason Cashe. First announced on social media, it shouldn't be a surprise to see him once again entering a Lion's Road hosted Arena. There wasn't screaming fans or backstage staff rushing up to get a 'random' placed interview. Cashe was just stepping into the hallway and nobody cared he was there nor should they. As he proceeds deeper down the hallway, the camera following him stops as he turns to face it.

"Is there a tracking device in my ass so cameras know exactly when someone enters the building? Why are you following me? Ohh! Ohh I get it!"

Looking around, Cashe nods and stares back into the camera.

"Why the disappearance right? Where did I go? I have been asked these questions and more since I popped back up. I'm sure you'll hear guys like Hammertime yap their yappers saying I ran away cause I lost. You'll hear this strange rumor I got hit by a fucking Moped..."

His pause came with a long stare like you'd see in Ferris Bueller's day off. Like there was an inside joke to be found within his words but he skipped only a beat and continued.

"The truth is.. I don't owe not a motherfucking one of you out there an explanation! Truth is I took a trip after spraining my ankle in Phoenix Wrestling. The.. Truth is? None of why or where I was matters does it? Its information that is need to know and the only ones needing to know are those who's check clears. What DOES matter is the man looking dead at you as this stupid fucking camera rolls is a man who has returned. What I can tell you is that I am back and its not with just a fresh start but a clear head. Its a new mindset but the same aggressive approach to this business. I fight, I go for the throat because bitch, I am a dog. Da OG.. DiOGee. My bark will match my bite once more and it will be vicious!"

Shrugging he looks around, always one to check his surroundings. Now there were people with lingering eyes. Watching him speak, hearing the things he was saying. He didn't need an audience right now and he wanted to once again earn any praise had in the ring.

"There you have it. For now, tonight it is all anyone will get. I see now that I have nothing to offer but work. In description of work, my meaning is that I don't want to TALK about what I am going to do but the ACTION I will take to show it. Ready yourselves.."

Shoving the camera to the right Cashe turns and leaves around a corner and out of sight.

The locker room.

David Troy chuckles to himself as he greets his partner, Bam Markham, and their manager, Cam Markham, grinning ear-to-ear.

DAVID TROY
Fellas, we’re about to go into that ring against a pack of hombres who clearly don’t care at all about rules, and we need to always be on the lookout for those bastards, or else they’ll get the drop on us.

Both Markhams nod.

BAM MARKHAM
Yeah. Gettin’ sick of this WALL bullshit. Like, REAL fuckin’ sick.

CAM “SLAM” MARKHAM
And I done left my mace at home, so what ya got, David?

DAVID TROY
Well, I know we held them all four of them off, just the two of us in that big team battle royal, but I decided to take out a little insurance policy and call in a favor from an old friend of mine. Eiichiro? Hai, hajime mashou.

Troy calls outside the locker room in what sounds like Japanese, causing a rather large man to casually saunter into the room. He looks to be about Bam’s size, but clearly of Asian descent, with neatly trimmed black hair and brown eyes, dressed in a pair of blue jeans, a black long-sleeved shirt, and black leather boots. He chuckles and gives a respectful nod towards the Markhams. Bam jerks a thumb at the large man.

BAM MARKHAM
The fuck’s this guy?

DAVID TROY
Gentlemen, meet Eiichiro Yamazaki; though in the ring he goes by the name Mushigihara. We were tag partners in a past life, but more importantly, before that, he was a sumo wrestler.

David turns his head to Bam and Cam and pats the newcomer on his shoulder.

DAVID TROY
So ya KNOW he knows how to take down a big threat in a short time. You figure a sumo match lasts… what, two, three minutes at most? Well, consider that he can go for much longer than that, and a minute in there with him feels like an HOUR.

Mushigihara nods and chuckles before Cooley responding with a low…

MUSHIGIHARA
Osu.

DAVID TROY
His English isn’t too sharp yet, but he can understand you. And he doesn’t need to speak English in order to smash a brick or two out of a WALL, right?

David senses concern in both Markhams’ faces.

DAVID TROY
Don’t worry. He’s not a replacement for you, Bammer. I may not walk the right hand path these days, but I’m no traitor. He’s extra muscle, for sure, but also a damn good wrestler, and I think he’ll be a good fit for the Dangerous Mix and our plans.

Bam sizes up The Man Called Mushi and nods.

BAM MARKHAM
Long as he's lookin’ to kick the WALL's ass and leaves the in-ring business to us, I'm good.

Cam nods towards their new ally.

CAM “SLAM” MARKHAM
Kon'nichiwa, big’un. If y'all need a manager sometime, I might know a me.

Mushi chuckles and smiles, replying with a nod.

DAVID TROY
He has a regular manager already, but my man’s plate is full with a lot of stuff, so he said he trusts my judgment. Mushi here might take you up on your offer!

Cam smirks.

CAM “SLAM” MARKHAM
Well then, boys… y'all wanna win some Heritage Tag Team Titles?

DAVID TROY
Does a bear shit in the woods, Ol’ Man Cam the Slam?

David lets out a REAL laugh this time. Bam chuckles again and gestures to the empty shoulder not housing a title.

BAM MARKHAM
Me. I wanna be a Double Champ and hilariously rub that shit in everyone's face. Heh.

DAVID TROY
Right on. Well, let’s tear down that wall. Ready, Mushi?

MUSHIGIHARA
OSU!

All four men slap hands together, then rally out the locker room into battle.

Ladies and gentlemen, this Heritage Tag Team title bout is to be fought over a twenty minute time limit with one fall, one submission or a knockout to decide the winner! Introducing first already in the ring at a combined weight of four hundred and eighty two pounds! DAVID TROY! BAM MARKHAM! THE DANGEROUS MIX!

Troy crouches down, waiting for his opponents as Markham paces back and forth. MUSHIGIHARA stands guard on the outside.

BRADY ROSSEN

Introducing their opponents at a combined weight of four hundred and seventy pounds! They are the current, reigning and defending Heritage Tag Team Champions! HAMMERSTEIN! CARL WHITAKER! THE WALL!

Stahlhammer's "Another Brick in the Wall" screeches over the PA system and out walk the tag team champions, Carl Whitaker in front, Hammerstein behind him... and Justin Seville! The trio stop at the guardrail's opening and have a quick chat. They each nod and bump fists before taking separate sides, MUSHIGIHARA stomps past Whitaker and heads straight for Seville. Give Cottonmouth some credit, he takes the fight to the big Japanese man! Security quickly ascends on the two and escorts them both to the back.

SAM HEWITT

That's one way of evening the odds.

BRADY ROSSEN

Your referee for this bout is Xavier Price!

The champions climb in the ring and the war is on! No time wasted in this one! Xavier Price attempts to restore order but ultimately thinks better of getting in between this heated confrontation and calls for the opening bell. Bam Markham and Hammerstein are going at it in one corner and David Troy is using clinch work to limit Carl Whitaker's offense in another corner! Bam tries to whip Hammerstein into the ropes but he hangs on and drops down to the mat, rolling out. Price tells Markham to take his place on the apron and despite looking as though he'd rather do anything but listen to Price, his grandfather tells him the same thing and he obeys. Troy brings Whitaker in the middle of the ring, now free of the potential trampling threat and releases the clinch. He unleashes a couple of leg kicks that knock Whitaker down to his knees, Troy grabs him in a clinch again and leads him over to where Bam Markham is waiting on the apron. Troy directs traffic a bit, telling Markham to stand in the middle of the ring. Troy launches Whitaker into the ropes and exits, leaving Markham in there to scoop up Ol' Stonehands... and throw him down! Hammerstein tries to get inside the ring, but David Troy spots him and gets back in. Price sees Troy, but not Hammer and goes to stop him - allowing the tag team champions to show why they've got the belts. Hammerstein runs up and smashes Markham in the back with a double axe handle, dropping him to his knees. Whitaker rolls out and Price turns around, Hammerstein is officially the legal man.

SAM HEWITT

You can call that underhanded tactics if you want, but it's a legal tag either way once the legal man touches the floor.

BRIAN SHELZI

It just shows you WHY these guys are champions though, Sammy. They're both former World Tag Team Champions albeit they had different partners, but the fact that they're easily able to adapt to each other says a ton about their tag team abilities.

Hammerstein puts his body in front of Markham's face, blocking Price's line of sight as he gouges the eyes. Hammer denies any wrongdoing when questioned by Price, then clamps on a side headlock before driving his fist into Markham's skull. Markham staggers away, Hammer tries to chase him down but eats a shot to the gut for his trouble. The Heritage Heavyweight Champion tries to follow up but gets cut off by a knee to the gut, Hammer drags him by his curly hair and slams him head first into the top turnbuckle before making an actual tag to Carl Whitaker. The Roaring Rumble winner comes in and uses a jab to stun Bam momentarily, then works some hook shots to the body. Whitaker goes for the knockout punch early, but Bam ducks and picks him up onto his shoulder! Hammerstein reaches in and grabs Whitaker's arm, pulling him down to safety from Markham's attempt to slam him into the mat.

BRIAN SHELZI

Look at that! That's beautiful tag team wrestling!

Markham turns around, Whitaker force feeds him a throat thrust. With the big man staggered, Whitaker grabs him in a front waist hold and shows impressive strength as he delivers a belly to belly suplex!

Bam kicks out by powering out of the pin, forcing Whitaker to roll away but he recovers and tags in Hammerstein. The American Monster comes in and tries to attack, but Markham delivers a headbutt to the gut! Hammer doubles over, trying to catch his breath. Markham tries to make his way over to tag David Troy, but Hammerstein grabs a rear waist hold and falls down to the mat as he yanks him backwards. Whitaker clubs the Heritage Heavyweight Champion with a forearm to the back of the head, dropping him down to a knee and buying his partner some time to recover. Hammer stands up and clubs Markham with some inside forearm smashes, knocking him onto all fours. Markham tries to crawl over to his corner but Hammer comes off the ropes and drops a leg down across the back of his neck, flattening him to the mat. The American Monster gets up and taunts Troy, but Troy doesn't take the bait - he stays cool on the apron.

SAM HEWITT

Very good self-restraint by David Troy, Hammerstein trying to draw him in so that he and Whitaker can utilize an illegal double team.

BRIAN SHELZI

How can you say for sure that's what they had in mind?

SAM HEWITT

I've seen enough professional wrestling to know.

BRIAN SHELZI

I've taunted enough people inside the ring and out to tell you... sometimes it's just for fun.

Hammer tags in Whitaker and the two men grab Markham up off the mat and whip him into the ropes, they grab each other's arm and charge forward for a double lariat...

BUT BAM RUNS RIGHT THROUGH!

Unfortunately for our tag team champions, they kept their grips on each other's arms intact as he did and collide heads! Markham drops to his knees, both members of the WALL are down and David Troy stands on the apron - dying for a tag! Whitaker rolls back out to the floor, making Hammerstein the legal man once more. He gets to his hands and knees, a bit frazzled from the meeting of the minds but sees Markham getting up. Hammerstein dives to prevent him from tagging, but he makes it! Troy is in! He hastily makes his way through the ropes, then fires a kick to the body of Hammerstein! A second... a third! Hammerstein falls back against the ropes and Troy decks him with a couple forearms before grabbing onto his wrist. Carl Whitaker slides back in and tries to attack, but he eats a savate kick and drops to his knees! Troy turns his attention back to Hammer, grabbing his arm and falling back as he puts his foot up - an inverted stomp facebreaker! Hammerstein falls backwards to the mat. Whitaker recovers and drops a knee onto Troy's face! He gets up and smashes his forearm into Bam's skull, knocking him off the apron. Price goes to admonish Whitaker, telling him to get out of the ring and misses the Texas Bull tossing something to Hammerstein. Whitaker puts his hands up in innocence and takes his time exiting the ring. The fans begin roaring...

SAM HEWITT

The fans have come alive for something, I don't think they're cheering for whatever got tossed to Hammerstein but we can't really see the entrance from here without the cameras on it.

The cameras show Eli Buchanan charging down to the ring.

BRIAN SHELZI

What does this goof want?!

Buchanan leaps onto the apron, shouting at Price to check Hammerstein's hands. Before Price can turn, Hammer drops it and kicks it back to Whitaker on the floor. Hammer opens both hands, showing he's got nothing and walks right up to Buchanan. He gives his brother-in-law a shove, knocking him off the apron. Buchanan lands against the guardrail, but is otherwise fine. Hammer tells him to keep out of business that isn't y--

FLASH BACKSLIDE!

2-WHITAKER DIVES IN!

... BUT MARKHAM GRABS HIM!

SAM HEWITT

We've got new tag team champions!

Troy dips out in a hurry, grabbing the belts and hurrying around the ring. He hands Markham his new hardware and the two celebrate on the floor. Justin Seville comes down the aisle and blocks the Dangerous Mix from exiting. Buchanan joins the new champions and the three men egg on the WALL! Whitaker doesn't need an invitation to kick someone's ass, especially not Eli Buchanan's! Hammerstein rolls out and comes around the ring...

BUT GETS BLINDSIDED BY A BASEBALL BAT TO THE GUT!

He doubles over, the bat comes up from the crowd and smashes down onto his back - barbed wire adorning it! The man jumps the railing, stomping Hammerstein as he does. He unzips his hoodie...

SAM HEWITT

That's... that's EL HIJO DE POLLO!

BRIAN SHELZI

OH HELL!

Alexander Irvine's come out to join his stablemates in the brawl in the crowd, making that three on three. The reemergence of MUSHIGIHARA from the back, keeps the WALL from noticing that Hammerstein isn't there. Eli Buchanan wisely slinks out of the brawl and heads to the back. El Presidente of Poultry slowly approaches the broadcast booth with swagger only Hijo could pull-off. He gently pulls the headsets off of Sam Hewitt and Brian Shelzi and places them gingerly on the table in front of them. The announce team is frozen in their chairs, periodically blinking just to confirm Hijo’s presence as reality.

EL HIJO DE POLLO
Open your ears, because it’s my time to speak now.

The once forgotten luchadore grabs a microphone and taps it twice.

POP! POP!

Hijo looks into the ring with a devilish grin and then addresses the nearby camera.

The crowd unanimously boos and Hijo pauses to soak in the reception. Except, this time the boos were not for the purpose of urging him to leave, they were for him to stay.

Hijo reaches into his slacks and pulls out a neatly folded piece of paper. He unravels it and begins to read it out loud.

Just as the crowd erupts in excitement, Hijo begins to shred the contract and silences them.

The crowd, hesitant that they are going to be swerved again, remain silent.

Hijo places the microphone back on the commentary desk, waves to the crowd and disappears back into the crowd. Stage hands attend to Hammerstein while security is doing their best to separate the brawl between MUSHIGIHARA, the Dangerous Mix and the WALL.

We cut to a shot of a locker room, backstage, where we see Matt Pulver stretching. He’s wearing his spandex bodysuit and is currently taping his wrists, looking as focused as ever. He catches a glimpse of the camera out of the corner of his eye, but keeps his eyes on his wrist as he tapes it.

MATT PULVER
This is it. I’ve looked forward to this match for a long time. Just as much as I’ve dreaded it.

He moves on to the other wrist, keeping his focus on the task at hand. 

MATT PULVER
This whole thing came out of a bad situation. A situation I could’ve and should’ve handled better. But it is what it is. I’ve learned from it, all I can do now is make the best out of it.

Finishing taping both wrists, he sits down on one of the benches and begins tying the laces of his wrestling shoes.

MATT PULVER
This is is an opportunity that doesn’t come along often, and I’m not just talking about the championship. As much as I want to carry that belt and all the responsibility that comes with it, my main goal is to become the best I possibly can be. It always was. And this has all the elements of trial by fire; two young and hungry fighters with all the heart in the world, everything to prove, strong emotions, and the most coveted prize on the line.

He ties the last knot and brings one of his feet up to the bench.

MATT PULVER
 Tonight, the best man will win. And that man doesn’t exist yet.

Bringing his legs into a lotus position, he closes his eyes and breathes slowly.

MATT PULVER
He can only be born in the ring.

We cut to another area where AJ Knight is seen shadow boxing before Becky Chande enters, wearing an outfit she'd never wear to work.

BECKY CHANDE
Good luck tonight, AJ.

AJ nods and smiles, then blushes a bit as she turns away.

Darkness...

WHO WILL WIN THE AJ KNIGHT vs. MATT PULVER MATCH?

The darkness is replaced by a head shot of Hammerstein, sitting in a hospital.

HAMMERSTEIN

If you're asking me, head to head, who will win in a wrestling match, I'm going with Pulver. He's a better all around wrestler than AJ is, and I can't see Knight going hold for hold with Pulver. Now if you're asking me who I want to win, I hope they both beat the hell out of each other. I can't stand that self-righteous punk Pulver, but a small part of me would rather see that sawed off little bastard win the title than have that piece of shit AJ Knight. It doesn't really matter who wins, because sooner or later, whoever wins will have to put the belt up against me, and I'll stomp the hell out of them and take that strap.

The next shot is of Billy Danielson, working out.

BILLY DANIELSON

I'm going to win the King of the Lions Championship, no matter what. If it's AJ Knight, great, because I want to watch the look on his face when I take that belt away from him. However, if it's Matt Pulver, even better, because that means I only have to work a fraction of how hard to get what's mine. That fluke won't stand a chance, nobody will!

Bam Markham is walking somewhere.

...I hope they both fuckin' take each other out. I'd love for Pulver to win cause I just beat him in the Heritage Tag Title Gauntlet so I would then be #1 Contender... Though, I'd love to be the one to knock that stupid smug fuckin' hypocrite smile off AJ's face and take that title. Hmm... Decisions, decisions.

Ben Chrenshaw is in his familiar gym.

BEN CHRENSHAW

You have to go with AJ, he's beaten almost everyone there is to offer. It's a huge match with a lot of consequences, but to say that Matt doesn't stand a chance is ridiculous. I cannot downplay his abilities at all - these two are in this match because of their abilities. It's going to be a helluva match and I'll be ringside to get the best view possible.

Former King of Lions - Mr. 448! Julian Cutlass begins to speak.

I’ve fought both AJ Knight and Matt Pulver at the highest levels. AJ’s ascension through the ranks of Lion’s Road happened quick, you know? I mean, look, a couple years ago the dude was bouncing checks. Now he’s cashing checks, and I mean the high dollar ones, the ones that put some weight in your bank account. Cause he’s got that race car driver mentality, man. Dude’s in the car and speeding out the driveway before you hear the click of the seat belt. It’s crazy, man.

But Matt Pulver just doesn’t go away now, does he? Here’s a guy who just seems to just float near the top. Doesn’t say much, doesn’t make a big deal, but when you look at the list of contenders his name is always there. And why? Because he’s a serious fighter. He leaves it all in the ring. He reveres the ring. Like a monk cleaning the shrine, or something... It’s diligence, man, it takes a lifetime, but he just goes to work. And when other guys give up, he just walks right past them. It’s cool, I love it.

And that’s what makes this such an important match. This is about two very different guys jousting to decide what the new generation of wrestling will become. You got the guy who makes the big splash in the pool with a fucking cannonball versus the diver whose flawless technique barely leaves a ripple across the surface of the water.

Davis steps forward and reads from his card as Rossen holds the microphone.

It is here tonight in Milwaukee, Wisconsin that reigning champion AJ Knight looks to make his fourth defense of the King of Lions World's Heavyweight Championship against a man who has been in Lion's Road since day one in Matt Pulver. Tonight, two former teammates will collide as they vie for the richest prize in our sport and the highest honour in all of Lion's Road! May the best man win!

Davis shakes hands with both fighters then exits the ring.

Ladies and gentlemen, this King of Lions World's Heavyweight title bout is to be fought over a thirty minute time limit with one fall, one submission or a knockout to decide the winner! Introducing the challenger! Fighting out of Bloomington, Minnesota by way of Leksand, Sweden! He weighs in at one hundred and ninety pounds! Making his fifth attempt to capture the championship! THE MAT WRESTLING MACHINE - MATT PULVER!

Pulver gets a great pop from the fans and he raises his arm to acknowledge the crowd.

BRADY ROSSEN

His opponent fighting out of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania! He weighed in this morning at two hundred and twenty pounds! He is the current, reigning and defending King of Lions World's Heavyweight Champion...

AJ rushes to Brady's side and whispers something into his ear.

BRADY ROSSEN

...and the brains behind the Mat Crusaders.

The crowd chuckles, Pulver shakes his head.

BRADY ROSSEN

THE CRUSADER - AJ KNIGHT!

AJ holds the title high in the air, stepping right up to Pulver as he does. Garner gets in between the two and AJ hands him the belt.

BRADY ROSSEN

Your referee for this bout is Cordell Garner!

Garner hands off the World's title belt and calls for the bell. The fans roar as AJ Knight and Matt Pulver circle around before engaging in a collar and elbow tie-up, AJ forces Pulver back into the corner and Garner calls for a clean break. The World's Champion takes his hands off of Pulver and steps back, but then drives forward with a shoulder into the midsection of his challenger and former teammate. Pulver grunts in pain and falls to his knees as AJ is pushed back by Garner, but the champion brushes past the senior referee and pulls Pulver back up to a vertical base before striking him with a forearm. Pulver is wobbled but stays on his feet, AJ drives in again with a shoulder to the gut - a move he repeats several times until Garner pulls him off. AJ shoves Garner away and spears into Pulver again causing the two men to fold up between the top and middle rope and fall out to the apron in front of former King of Lions, Julian Cutlass, who stands up and looks over the railing to check out the scene.

SAM HEWITT

Matt Pulver was trying to get out of the corner and AJ, showing a vicious side of himself, just dove right into him and now both men are on the floor.

BRIAN SHELZI

I give my respect to Cordell Garner in this one, Sammy. He could've easily given AJ a yellow card on two different occasions already, but he knows what's at stake here and he certainly knows these two have been chomping at the bit to get each other alone inside the ring. This is going to be fun.

On the floor, AJ bashes Pulver's head off the ring apron. He tells Cutlass to enjoy his record while he can before sliding back inside. Pulver falls to the cement floor but gets right back up... sort of, he can't quite find his balance and winds up falling back down onto his hands and knees. Pulver shakes out the cob webs as he grabs the ring skirt, steadying himself before he slides back in. AJ Knight is right on top of him though, he hauls Pulver into the centre of the ring with a front chancery and tries for a swinging neckbreaker but the Master of a Thousand Holds breaks free and goes for a forearm. AJ sidesteps the strike, then grabs the arm and takes Pulver to the mat, the crowd pops as AJ tries for the Templar Stretch - the over-the-shoulder crossface. Pulver rolls forward as AJ is attempting to put it on properly, slipping out expertly. Pulver pops up and grabs the ropes, AJ charges to his feet and tries to spear Pulver again...

BUT PULVER HOISTS HIMSELF ONTO THE TOP ROPE AND AJ GOES THROUGH THE ROPES AND CRASHES TO THE FLOOR!

The crowd murmurs as Cordell Garner and Dr. Pierson both rush to check on the World's Champion. Ben Chrenshaw is a bit slower to make his way over, holding the bandage on his head as he does. Once Garner and Pierson deem him to be OK and able to continue, Garner begins the ten count. Chrenshaw's telling AJ to get up and the young champion lays there, looking up... he rolls onto his side, then climbs up to his knees and crawls like that to the ring. He grabs the bottom rope at five and stalls for a moment, Chrenshaw shoves him back inside.

SAM HEWITT

Look at the difference here... when Pulver was climbing back in, AJ was right on top of him. AJ's now getting back in and Pulver's on the other side of the ring, recuperating.

BRIAN SHELZI

Cutlass said it best - who wants it more? If it were my client in there challenging for the World's title, I'd be screaming at him to stay on top of the champion at all times. I get it, Pulver's the smallest man in Lion's Road and has to conserve his energy a bit more to effieciently fight against larger opponents but does he truly have the mindset to be World's Champion if he's on the other side of the ring? Does he have the killer instinct? He sure as hell did two years inside the Steel Cage with Alexander Irvine. That Matt Pulver could've easily been World's Champion... but this one? I'm not so sure, Sammy.

Pulver's clearly in a bit of pain as he makes his way over to AJ, bringing up to his feet in a front chancery. He backs up and chucks AJ into the corner, he then grabs his wrist and tries to Irish whip him out of there but the World's Champion reverses it and sends Pulver into the opposite corner. AJ comes flying in... SHOULDER TO THE MIDSECTION AGAIN! Pulver doubles over in pain as AJ gets up off his knees, grabbing Pulver's head/neck area in a plume clinch as he pulls him out of the corner. AJ snaps off a European uppercut, Pulver falls back against the corner turnbuckles... then returns fire with a forearm! AJ is stunned by the shot, Pulver grabs AJ and leaps up, putting his feet on AJ's thighs as he clutches his head and falls backwards into a monkey flip. Instead of launching his former champion, he rolls through with him...

DOUBLE STO--

FAKE OUT! HE SLAPS ON A CROSS ARMBREAKER!

Cutlass and all of the fans pop huge as AJ springs up, trying to stack Pulver in an attempt to defend the hold that's fully applied! AJ hammerfists Pulver's head, forcing the challenger to let go. AJ gets up, so too does Pulver...

SUNSET FLIP!

3-NO!

AJ kicks out in time, smacking Pulver's head between each of his legs. Pulver is slow to get up from the successive blows to the head, but AJ isn't - he gets up and grabs Pulver by the arm and launches him into the corner. Pulver is thrown in, AJ right behind... Pulver runs up the turnbuckles and flips over like he's Tiger Mask, AJ turns around and slaps the taste right out of his mouth! Pulver falls to a knee, AJ grabs him in an inverted chancery and DDT's him!

SAM HEWITT

An inverted DDT! Not quite the Knightfall, but it might be enough!

Cutlass sits back in his chair and smiles. AJ questions Garner's count, then slaps Pulver again for good measure. He pulls his challenger's leg over to the bottom rope and drapes it onto it, then leaps up into the air and drops his hip and therefore all his weight down across the leg. Garner begins a five count as AJ stays seated on the leg, Chrenshaw applauds the leg work and tells the camera, "He listens!" before laughing. AJ scoots under the bottom rope and pulls Pulver's leg over the edge of the ring apron...

AND SMASHES IT DOWN!

Pulver yells out in pain, AJ is admonished by Garner who tells him to get back inside the ring. AJ does just that, pulling his challenger into the middle of the ring where he turns him over with the single leg crab locked in! The crowd is red hot as Matt Pulver's face grimaces with pain, he reaches out for the ropes but they are definitely not an option in the dead centre of the ring. Pulver grabs AJ's foot and begins rocking his hips, slowly working on getting AJ back into the setup position to alleviate the pressure on his legs and back. AJ stomps the leg a couple of times before trying to turn him back over, Pulver fights it hard though and succeeds in preventing it. AJ tries to readjust his grip, but Pulver executes a kip up/upkick and knocks AJ back into the ropes! He comes staggering back...

AJ and Pulver get to their feet at roughly the same time and circle around, AJ is hellbent though and goes right after the leg again - taking Pulver down with a single leg. He presses his right knee on Pulver's ankle to keep him in place then delivers a stiff forearm to his challenger as he tries to grab him and prevent him from working the leg. Knight presses down on the thigh with his left hand and replaces his knee with his right hand on the ankle... leaps up... DRIVING A KNEE DOWN ONTO PULVER'S LEG! Pulver yells out in pain as AJ keeps the knee on it and begins pulling the foot up. The challenger sits up and uses his right arm to reach around AJ's face, grabbing his own left arm to form a headlock that succeeds in pulling AJ off of his leg and face down into the mat with Pulver on top in back mount. Chrenshaw tells AJ to stay calm, but Matt has a devil on the shoulder moment.

MATT PULVER

Yeah, stay calm, AJ. Stay calm!

Pulver slaps AJ's head from the right side.

MATT PULVER
You're going to lose your belt, again, AJ.

He cracks a left hand down on the left side of AJ's head. AJ bucks up, allowing Pulver to readjust his arms and clamp on a choke! Pulver can be heard laughing as he falls backwards, AJ on top of him struggling to breathe. The champion clutches the arms of his challenger, trying to pry them free. Chrenshaw tells AJ to stay calm and to use his right hand to grab Pulver's hand, then use his left to pull his on his own forearm. AJ does this and manages to break Pulver's grip, AJ turns over into Pulver's guard and begins hammer fisting his face. Pulver tries to dodge, managing to avoid most heavy sho---

TRIANGLE CHOKE!

AJ stands up, trying to stack Pulver who just about has his knee pressed against his own head. AJ wraps his arm around the back of Pulver's neck and tries to lift him up... BUT HE FALLS BACKWARDS! PULVER LANDS ON TOP, HOLD STILL APPLIED - FULL MOUNT! Chrenshaw is shouting, telling AJ to kick his legs to the right...

AND HE DOES! HE GETS THE ROPES!

SAM HEWITT

And listen to this crowd, Brian - these fans know how close that was!

BRIAN SHELZI

Pulver's making me eat my words about killer instinct.

AJ and Pulver both slowly get to their feet, Pulver before AJ. AJ springs up and dropkicks Pulver causing him to spill through the ropes and to the apron, AJ recovers and reaches over the ropes to grab his challenger. He hooks him up to suplex him over the ropes and back into the ring, but Pulver hooks his leg onto the ropes to block it. AJ lets go, Pulver forearms him in the face and leads him over to the top turnbuckle where he bashes AJ's head off of it! Pulver goes to climb the turnbuckles as AJ falls to the mat. Pulver stays perched on the ropes, getting his balance right before he leaps off...

AJ MOVES!

PULVER CRASHES AND BURNS! BOTH MEN ARE DOWN!

Garner quickly checks both men then administers the ten count, AJ and Pulver are moving but definitely struggling to stay upright. They start crawling away from each other, but AJ grabs Pulver's foot to keep him within range. They turn toward one another, using each other as a crutch to help them to their feet. AJ strikes Pulver first, blasting him with a forearm. Pulver is spun around by the shot, AJ grabs him in a rear waist hold and then clutches the wrist. He spins Pulver around...

HOLY O-NO!

PULVER DUCKS!

REAR WAIST HOLD OF HIS OWN...

GERMAN SUPLEX!

HE BRIDGES!

WE HAVE A NEW CHAMPION!

...

NO!

ONLY TWO SAYS CORDELL GARNER!

Look at this, Sammy! Chrenshaw's eyes are wide, the crowd is aghast! Cutlass might've even sprouted some hair! Everyone thought it was over! Hell... I think Sammy's in shock too.

SAM HEWITT

Pulver lets go of the bridge, sits up and sees the two fingers... he falls back...

AJ CLAMPS ON THE TEMPLAR STRETCH!

AJ's trying his damnedest to pull Pulver down onto his stomach, but Pulver is fighting it...

AJ INSTEAD CRADLES HIM BACKWARDS!

NO!

ONLY TWO AGAIN!

It's AJ's turn to question the referee, Pulver is on all fours... but gets to his knees, rubbing his shoulder. AJ turns around and sees Pulver's in position for something special.

BEN CHRENSHAW

Superkick him!

AJ stomps his foot once... drawing Pulver's attention, the challenger smiles as AJ goes to step forward, taking the champion completely off guard.

MATT PULVER

Do it, AJ.

AJ is frozen in place, but snaps out of it.

BEN CHRENSHAW
Kick him, AJ! KICK HIM!

Instead of the superkick, AJ grabs Pulver and goes for the Knightfall DDT...

PULVER BLOCKS!

KNEE!

GANNOSUKE CLUTCH!

THE PLACE EXPLODES!

Pulver rolls off to the side, AJ looks to Chrenshaw... but the Crippler is walking out! Pulver falls against the ropes, AJ gets up and yells for Chrenshaw who ignores him. Teddy Davis climbs into the ring with the belt and heads toward Pulver. The Mat Wrestling Machine pulls himself to his feet and is overcome by the emotion. He stands tall, allowing Davis to wrap the belt around his waist. The place erupts with another big pop as Matt Pulver raises his arms with the ten pounds of gold around his waist, then drops to his knees. Sam Hewitt climbs inside the ring with a microphone in hand and puts his arm around Pulver, crouching down to interview him.

SAM HEWITT

Matt Pulver... congratulations. I know it's been a long journey for you so tell everyone in Milwaukee how you fe--

AJ snatches the microphone out of Sam's hands, the crowd boos him big time.

AJ KNIGHT

...

He goes to speak, but is breathing heavily and clearly distraught about the loss.

AJ KNIGHT

...

Again, no words. AJ shakes his head and extends his hand, Pulver thinks about it for a minute and accepts it. AJ pulls him up to a standing position and the microphone picks up the exchange.

AJ KNIGHT

You hold that belt with pride, Matt... but just know, I'll get it back.

AJ forces a smirk, Pulver is too elated to really be upset about AJ stealing his moment. AJ leaves and Pulver unfastens the belt, charging to the turnbuckles where he leaps up and holds the belt high as we fade out.
