Mushigihara
NICKNAME(S) -
The God-Beast, The King of the Monsters, The Japanese Juggernaut, The Golden Goliath, The Monster of Mito
HEIGHT & WEIGHT -
6’4”, 294 pounds.
DATE OF BIRTH -
August 12, 1986
PLACE OF BIRTH -
Mito, Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan
FIGHTS OUT OF -
Mito, Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan
YEAR OF DEBUT -
2010
ALIGNMENT -
4-5. He doesn’t have the kind of contempt for the crowd that David Troy does, but he’s not worried about currying favor from them. As far as Mushigihara is concerned, this is all business.
PERSONALITY -
The cool, calm, collected big guy to David Troy’s aggressive, scheming firecracker personality.
EQUIPMENT -
Mushigihara wears a unitard-like outfit (basically a singlet with legs), also black with gold streaks riding up the legs, and black boots with gold laces. Black kneepads with gold trim round out the look, as well as plain black elbow pads and black fingerless gloves.
CASUAL ATTIRE -
Suits. Always suits.
WALKOUT ATTIRE -
A gold and black, insect-themed mask. He removes the mask before his match begins, though. Under the mask he has a head of short, thick black hair and brown eyes.
WALKOUT THEME -
”Mach 13 Elephant Explosion” by Masafumi Takada
ALLIES/RIVALS -
DAVID TROY: A former tag partner of Troy’s, Mushigihara was brought to Lion’s Road to serve as his “insurance policy.” While he still serves in this capacity, he’s not afraid to go and do his own thing.
BRIEF HISTORY -
The man, the myth, the monster. Mushigihara was a sumo competitor before he took to the squared circle, and in fact, “Mushigihara” was his shikona, or ring name, from that bygone time. After he retired from the sport due to injuries, internal politics, and the impending scandal that shook the world of sumo to its core, he took to professional wrestling. He dropped a considerable amount of weight, developed a style that fit his massive frame, and has had success, mainly as a tag team specialist.
PREVIOUS INJURIES -
N/A
STRENGTHS/WEAKNESSES -
S1: STRONK -- Beneath the bulk and flab is a monster that could give competitive powerlifters a run for their money. He could easily lift his body weight, or more, in a press slam position for reps. And that only makes his power moves hurt even more.
S2: Explosive -- Sumo matches are short and nasty; Mushi has built on his conditioning, allowing him to have explosive bursts of offense. As David Troy will point out, a minute in the ring with Mushigihara is like five or six matches in the classical dohyo.
S3: Durable -- Like most larger wrestlers, he can take a lot of abuse. This makes him great for coming into the ring in the hopes of wearing an opponent down by simply refusing to stay down, forcing them to exert themselves more. This is especially the case during attempts to kick out of his pinfalls.
W1: Speed -- While his weight loss since quitting sumo leaves him more mobile and less prone to tiring out, he's still far from a speedster. His forte is, and always has been, raw power.
W2: Dependent on standing -- Just about all of his moveset requires him to be on his feet. If you can keep him on the ground, he's in trouble.
W3: Easy to frustrate.
SPORTSMANSHIP -
All business. He won’t go out of his way to be a jerk to his opponents, but he won’t be particularly moved to show mercy or accept a rematch for matches with questionable outcomes unless it’s either worth his while or it interests him.
FIGHTING STYLE -
Mushi’s style is heavily influenced by King’s Road, the style of professional wrestling that was developed in All Japan in its prime. This particular style draws heavily from Southern-style (US) wrestling, with emphasis on storytelling and toughness. Mushi in particular is inspired by Jumbo Tsuruta and Genichiro Tenryu.
SIGNATURE MOVES -
~ Atlas Cutter: Argentine neckbreaker. This is Mushigihara’s first, primary method of putting opponents away.
~ Bearhug into an overhead belly-to-belly suplex. Most common set up for the Atlas Cutter or powerbomb.
~ Death Star: Swagger Bomb. Mushi will run towards a corner and spring himself into the second rope, before jumping back and splashing his opponent.
~ Uranage: This isn’t the Rock Bottom. Mushi grabs the opponent’s head and arm, and lifts them up and over before spiking them to the canvas. This can also be a viable alternate finish.
~ Press slam for reps: This is his “showing off” move.
~ Holy War: Spiral Bomb (spinning sitout powerbomb). Alternate finish.
FAVOURITE MOVES -
- Forearm smashes
- Inverted vertical suplex
- Manhattan Drop
- Double-arm suplex
- Snap scoop powerslam
- Corner avalanche splash
- Running senton
- Catapult
- Biel throw
- Running Shoulderblock
COUNTER MOVES -
- Countering a headscissor into a sitout powerbomb
- Catching a smaller opponent mid-air, squeezing them into the bearhug suplex.
- Snap scoop powerslam.
TAUNTS -
- Raising both arms.
- Making a cutthroat gesture.
- Making a “come get some” motion with his hands.
For each one, he will shout the word “OSU,” which is his signature phrase.
