Author’s note: Going to be a very abbreviated show this week due to a very busy weekend. Hopefully I’ll have more time next weekend to put together a better show.
-The open quickly highlighted “PWGP Glory Road: 3 Kings”, ending with Team Extreme K (Alan Hunter, Sweet Daddy D and Easy E) winning the first annual 3 Kings Tournament Final over “The Family” (Kraken, “Iron” Mack Brody and BOB).
-We go live to the PWGP Exhibition Centre, where “That Masked Guy” El Hombre Loco Enmascarado welcomes us to PWGP CHARGE. He also introduces us to this week’s special guest commentator, “Nightmare” Teddy Davis.
-The BUAC Spokesman Robert Fredrick appears on screen to make a few announcements. First, he announces that next week’s show will mark the first year anniversary of the debut of “CHARGE” and he’s proud to announce that next week’s show will feature feature a fourway ladder match for the Anniversary Cup, with four qualifying matches to occur throughout the evening. As for tonight though, in tonight’s main event Kraken and “Iron” Mack Brody, collectively known as The Krak ‘n Mack Connection, will defend their PWGP International Tag Team Titles against the number one contenders, The Brute Squad, who gained their required three points at “3 Kings”. He’s about to announce more, but he’s interrupted by a stagehand who told him that MLWA General Manager Greg Stradford was here to see him. He excuses himself to go prepare for their meeting.
This is a rematch from “3 Kings”, where these two met for the brand new title after each winning a six pack challenge. Mark Lindsey immediately kicks everyone not participating in the match from ringside, remembering how it was the interference of all the members of Surf ‘n Turf that led to Zaros winning. This appeared to work to Philly’s advantage at first, as he dominates the contest with his kicks, but Zaros is able to battle back and use underhanded tactics to gain control and begin to wear the snake man down. Zaros looks like he’s about to win with Life Tree Down but Philly counters into a cobra clutch suplex and transitions into a crossface submission. Zaros appears about to tap but Vod and Land Shark hit the ring and attacked the champion. True North Ant and… Goober the Gooker (?) arrived to help Philly out and a six man brawl insured that led to all the members of Surf ‘n Turf being tossed from the ring.
-Zaros held up the Wings of Icarus Title, bragging about still being champion. Robert Fredrick appeared on the CHARGE-Tron and stated he didn’t have time for this nonsense. Next week at the first anniversary show there would Zaros would once again defend his championship against Philly Cheese Snake. In the meantime though, Robert Fredrick makes a six man tag team match RIGHT NOW between the two teams.
There’s clearly some tension between Goober and Philly at the start of the match and we’re reminded how Goober actually attacked Philly after losing to him in their six pack challenge match at “3 Kings”. Surf ‘n Turf blindside their opponents while they are deciding who will start the match and isolate Philly Cheese Snake, clearly trying to injure him before next week’s title match. For the next few minutes they would work over his surgically repaired neck. Philly frees himself enough to go for the tag but Vod charges in and knocks TNA off the apron. This forces Philly to tag in Goober, who clears the ring of all free members of Surf ‘n Turf. The crowds cheer turn to boos however when Goober suddenly attacks Philly and sends him shoulder first into the ring post. When True North Ant tries to come to his partner’s aid Goober kicks him low. Goober locks Philly in a Crossface Turkey Wing and refuses to release the hold for several minutes. When he finally does, he rolls out of the ring. This allows Zaros to slide into the ring and pin the helpless Philly Cheese Snake.
-After the match, Laurie Heeley tries to get word with Goober but he grabs the mic from her hands and motions for her to leave. To the shock of everyone, Goober rips off his mask, revealing his real face for the first time. He says that his real name is Kurt Thomchuk and for three years he’s been forced to wear this stupid costume to try to make a name for himself in this industry. He says he’s tired of being a joke and tired of being overlooked in favor of people like Philly Cheese Snake, someone he can beat on any given night. Tonight Goober is no more and things are about to get really serious around here. He then marches off while in the ring Philly is still be attended to by officials.
-We’re told prior to the match that Easy E torn his right rotator cuff during the semifinals of the # Kings Tournament and is expected to miss several months to recover. The match itself is pretty straightforward with Buster gaining control after interference by Runt. This is short lived as Sweet Daddy gets his comeback and hits a super kick. Runt tries to interfere again but gets taken out by Alan Hunter with a dive. This leads to Sweet Daddy D getting the submission victory with a Sweetner dragon sleeper.
-Following the match, The Guru berates both Moondogs about the loss. Buster and Runt seem to have enough and walk off on their manager, leaving him alone in the ring.
-We cut to the back where Robert Fredrick is getting ready for his meeting with Greg Stradford. Laurie Heeley comes in and asks him about what we saw earlier in the night involving the former Goober the Gooker, Kurtis Thomchuk. Fredrick states he doesn’t like how Thomchuk chose to maek a statement, but he appreciates that he wants to be taken serious, so next week he’s adding him to the Wings of Icarus Title Match. This would seem to be the end of the segment but Robert Fredrick asks to have a quick word with Heeley. We learn that the reason for how Eli and Charlotte Buchanan have been treating her in recent weeks is because of a situation that occurred between her and the former, over a year ago. Robert Fredrick assures her that she has nothing to worry about as far as her job is concerned and tells her to continue the good work.
This is a rematch from “3 Kings” where Orville won the Television Title from Daniels. There was some controversy in that match because Daniels had intentionally tried to get himself disqualified with a low blow, only for Jive to refuse to do so and Orville managing to pick up the victory. Daniels wastes no time attack Orville right at the bell. Orville fights back and the two go back and forth for the next few minutes. The match ends when Daniels sends Orville crashing into Jive and hits him the champion with a set of brass knuckles. When Jive recovers he sees his son pinning Newton and reluctantly making the three count.
After the match Sweet Daddy D arrives and tries to tell Jive what happened. Daniels denies it all, but tries to take SDD’s head off with the Television Title. Sweet Daddy D ducks and hits Daniels with a super kick. He then tells Jive he’s cashing in his Golden Opportunity right now and Jive calls for the bell.
An incensed Daniels blatantly pulls out the brass knuckles and tries to attack Sweet Daddy D with them right at the bell. Jive grabs them from him. The two argue, which allows Sweet Daddy D to hit another super kick. He immediately locks in the Sweetner and Daniels quickly taps out.
-Sweet Daddy D celebrated his championship win with the fans at ringside. Meanwhile back in the ring. James Daniels finally had enough and attacked his father from behind. This assault would be short lived as Jive managed to fight back and sent Daniels running after clotheslining him over the top rope. This led to security and officials would arrive to insure nothing more happened.
-The meeting between BUAC Spokesman Robert Fredrick and MLWA GM Greg Stradford started off with both men showing respect to each other with a shake of hands. After a few minutes of friendly banter however, things quickly broke down between the two of them. Stradford flat out accused Fredrick of being behind the invasion of MLWA’s last television taping over to retrieve the MLWA Saskatchewan Hardcore International Title (aka the PWGP 24/17 Title). Fredrick countered he hated the title, as it was introduced by The Invading Army to keep the PWGP roster distracted while they tried to gain permanent control of the company, and had stated no one from PWGP was given consent to “invade” MLWA. Fredrick went so far as to point out many of the talent who “invaded” MLWA happen to work for both companies. This led to Fredrick confronting Stradford about how the MLWA roster destroyed PWGP equipment, leaving them without a way to broadcast “CHARGE” several weeks ago, as well as Asper’s Army’s recent invasion of PWGP, interfering in several matches. This would lead to MLWA Champion, Bryant Adam Thompson, the MLWA Tag Team Champions, The Agent of Pain, and Saul Asper arriving to confront Fredrick, but several members of the PWGP roster arrived to defend Fredrick before anything could happen. Security and officials quickly intervened and the situation was de-esulated for the time being.
The champions try to argue that Brutus Smith shouldn’t be able to compete, but Columbo told everyone that Smith was a member of the Brute Squad and their contract stated they were permitted to use “Freebird Rules”. This throws the champions’ game plan off a bit and the challengers, especially Smith, are able to control the first few minutes of the match. Kraken and Brody are two big men, but appeared small next to the seven foot tall legend, who managed to throw Brody around with ease. The champions finally isolate Son of Brute and wear him down with their brawling tactics and sheer power.
For a few minutes it appears they will be able to retain the titles but the champions prove to be their own worst enemies. Throughout the match, BOB, who was constantly berated by all the members of The Family at ringside, tried his best to help his alliance members out by trying to interfere. This only led to the other members of The Family to get more mad at him and The Technician ended up slapping the Green Faced Goliath. This led to the Moondogs arriving to come to BOB’s aide, a man they had always felt a kinship with. They knocked Tech and The Guru down and lead BOB away, which distracted the champions long enough for Son of Brute to toss Brody into Kraken and tag in Smith.
The masked giant immediately clears house, knocking both Kraken and Brody in a loop with his powerful headbutts and chops. He goes for a chokeslam, but The Technician gets up on the apron to distract him, allowing Kraken to club Smith across the back with a double ax handle. Mini Brute would pull Tech down and clothesline him, while Son of Brute got back in the ring to help his partner. Kraken quickly knocks Son of Brute back out of the ring, but himself is tossed out of the ring by Smith. BOB comes charging back down to the ring and attacks Tech, with Kraken and Son getting involved in the brawl. The confusion allowed Smith to capitalize, catching Brody with a colossal choke slam and picking up the victory.
The show goes off the air with The Family regrouping on the stage while the Brutes celebrate their title victory in the ring. Davis and Loco note that The Guru’s stranglehold on the company is slowly falling apart and they wonder what will happen next.
So would some of you I’d dare say, but you’ll all just have to wait and see… at least in a couple of days (unless life throws me more curveballs). So until then, in the meantime and in between time…
