Overview
BLACK Lion’s Road is a pro-wrestling brand affiliated with Lion’s Road Pro-Wrestling and funded by Wesley J. Chubbman, the CEO and Owner of the Tranklin Media Group, Chemical Industrial, and numerous subsidiaries. B.L.R. runs events on a semi-quarterly basis and makes occasional appearances on an ad hoc basis elsewhere, typically represented by the brand’s ace, known as the Black Lion.
The in-ring style of B.L.R. events is of the highest technical skill, with events showcasing mixed martial arts and powerlifting competitions in addition to pro-wrestling. In support of this motive, the brand has earned recognized status with the Real Pro-Wrestling Council which sanctions the Openweight Championship, once known as the Iron Championship and fought under shoot-style rules. This title is the brand’s sole exclusive championship.
The matches are linked by the Ballad of the Black Lion, he who answers the call to adventure to conqueror non-beleivers and become the avatar of the true pro-wrestling. The ace of B.L.R. and generally the holder of the RPWC Openweight Championship, when a wrestler becomes the Black Lion they adopt a change in appearance and manner which demonstrates the darkness they carry with them so that the rest of the world may exist in the light. No one knows exactly how they will react to becoming the brand’s ace. But rest assured, the voyage will no doubt be of interest… and great import!
Logistics
B.L.R. is based in the pro-wrestling mecca of Charlotte, North Carolina. Most shows take place in the 5,000 seat Discovery Civic Center, though on occasion the brand will tour other cities and even schedule an occasional international event.
The brand runs on a semi-quarterly schedule, i.e. with a large event or week-long series of smaller shows once every 2-3 months. As a part of Lion’s Road Pro-Wrestling, on occasion B.L.R. will make an appearance on “the mothership” as fans have taken to calling it. When this occurs, the ring apron, ropes, and turnbuckles are all adorned in the black and gray colors of the brand. Oftentimes such an appearance will involve a defense of the RPWC Openweight title but occasionally feature other kinds of unusual matches.
Match Rules
Unless otherwise stated, matches in B.L.R. are fought under the Laurentide Athletic Commission rulebook with the “puroresu” exception that non-title matches have a 30-minute time limit while championship matches have a 60-minute time limit.
B.L.R. also hosts several unusual types of competitions. From shoot-style exhibitions to MMA to weightlifting, there are a wide variety of possible contests.
