This championship represents the fighting prowess of the most technically skilled fighters in the world. Originally sanctioned by Lion’s Road Pro-Wrestling and referred to as the Iron Championship, the belt was found under a hybridized shoot-style set of rules. On 5/25/2017, World’s Heavyweight Champion Julian Cutlass defeated Iron Champion Corey Cruelty in a title vs. title match to seal the latter belt indefinitely.
After Wes Chubbman financed the BLACK Lion’s Road operation, he immediately began a search for a title of his own. Scouring the pro-wrestling scene, he repeatedly encountered difficulties given his reputation as a deviant with a flare of the eccentric. He then approached his former client, Julian Cutlass, and inquired as to the status of the title.
It turns out that Cutlass had handed over the championship to the Real Pro-Wrestling Council, a small but selective entity which sought to preserve the technical belts around the world for safekeeping. Chubbman immediately expressed a desire to revive the title from history. After the Council had gathered, they came to the agreement that they would like to see the belt back in competition.
One of the stipulations is that the title be fought using shoot-style competitive rules. Each fighter begins with three (3) points which they can expend on ropebreaks. There is a new stipulation that the title is fought under a period of two, ten-minute rounds and features a point system If at the end of the two rounds there is no decision (i.e. pinfall, submission, TKO, corner/referee stoppage, or points depletion), the fight is scored by judges who base their decision on the technical proficiency and aggressiveness of the fighters.
On 12/9/2018, the championship was officially restored as the RPWC Openweight Championship. The title retains the previous lineage and recognizes all former reigns as RPWC Openweight Champions.
