Author’s note: Time to play a bit of catch up after procrastinating over the Anniversary show ladder match and taking some time off to concentrate on life stuff. Going to keep things abbreviated here so I can start fresh in 2019 with a clean slate:
December 9, 2018 Show:
-The show opened with BUAC Spokesman Robert Fredrick announcing that he’s challenging MLWA’s GM, Greg Stradford, to appear next week with a proposal to end this conflict between the two companies once and for all.
-The Moondogs defeated the Quack Attack when Runt pinned Ricky following the Super Bulldog. (Moondogs now have 1 point)
-Following the match they were ambushed by Krak ‘n Mack on the stage, ensuring they would not be able to interfere in their rematch for the PWGP International Tag Team Titles later in the evening.
-Sweet Daddy D successfully defended the PWGP Television Title against Orville Newton, winning by disqualification when the Bash Brothers interfered and beat SDD down. Alan Hunter would try to come to his friends aide but was beaten down as well. (Sweet Daddy D now has 7 points)
-Newton would confront his former tag team partner Big O after the attack, and was offered a spot with the Bash Brothers. He was given a week to decide.
-”Mad Dog” Lawrence Moody was named as the second inductee to the PWGP Hall of Fame Class of 2019. A New Mexican born wrestler best known for competing in the 1970s-1980s, Moody was also known for training wrestlers such as “Iron” Mack Brody and The Technician, and worked as an adviser to PWGP management during its first few months. Moody would appear for crowd in the PWGP Exhibition Centre and received a standing ovation.
-Kurt Thomchuk defeated Philly Cheese Snake by submission with the Crossface Chicken Wing after a long back and forth technical match. (Thomchuk now has 1 point)
-Robbie “Red” Baron and Things Uno & Dos defeated Surf ‘n Turf when Baron pinned the PWGP Wings of Icarus Champion Zaros with a victory roll.
-After the match, Robert Fredrick appeared and named Baron the number one contender to the WoI Championship and awarded him a title match in two weeks.
-The Brute Squad successfully defended the PWGP International Tag Team Titles against Krak ‘n Mack. Both PWGP Global Champion and BOB would get involved during the match, and The Guru and Tony Columbo got into a brawl much to the delight of the crowd. Brutus Smith would pin Brody following a choke slam.
-Following the match the Moondogs and BOB would help chase off the Guru and his men off and sent the crowd home happy.
December 16, 2018 Show:
-Surf ‘n Turf (Vod and Landshark) defeated Things Uno & Dos after Vod pinned Thing Uno with the Deep Six. (Vod and Landshark now have 1 point)
-Philly Cheese Snake would defeat Kurt Thomchuk, countering the Crossface Chicken Wing with a bridging reverse roll-up. (Philly now has 1 point, Thomchuk now has 0)
-Following the match, Robert Fredrick would announce that next week Thomchuk and Philly would face off in a Best of 3 Falls Match with the winner getting a future shot at the Wings of Icarus Title.
-Faititili and True North Ant fought to a ten minute time limit draw. They would shake hands following the match and led the crowd in chanting “PWGP”.
-This would lead to members of the MLWA roster to come through the crowd, but before they could attack the two wrestlers, the PWGP roster swarmed the ringside area from all sides and grabbed Bryant Adam Thompson and his buddies. MLWA GM Greg Stradford would come out to try and make peace, but Robert Fredrick arrived and wasn’t having any of it. Both sides admitted it was time to nip this in the butt. So at PWGP’s next big event, Glory Road: Battle Bowl II, PWGP and MLWA would each send ten of their best wrestlers to compete in the Lethal Lottery, with the winners to advance to Battle Bowl. The winner would not only win the Battle Bowl Cup, but also bragging rights for their company. Stradford, Thompson and the other MLWA wrestlers were then kicked out of the building.
-The Guru, manager of such wrestlers as The Technician, Kraken, “Iron” Mack Brody, BOB, Things Uno & Dos, and the Moondogs Buster & Runt, was named as the third person to be inducted into the PWGP Hall of Fame Class of 2019. A manager of over 30 years, he recently found a career resurgence in companies such as Pollomania Lucha Libre and Pro-Wrestling Grand Prix. Following a video of some of his career highlights, The Guru came out on stage and seemed humbled by the standing ovation he received from the crowd.
-The Technician, Kraken and “Iron” Mack Brody defeated BOB and the Moondogs when Tech used the loaded boot to knock Runt out and pinned him.
-Following the match BOB would rip the loaded boot off Tech and would attack the Global Champion with it. Kraken and Brody would have to drag him to safety and carry him to the back before BOB could do any further damage.
-”High Five” Jimmy Jive and his son “Top Ten” James Daniels fought to a double disqualification. Security would have to break the two of them up and drag them both to the back. Robert Fredrick would announce that next week these two would face off in a “I Respect You” Match.
-PWGP Television Champion, Sweet Daddy D would defeat Vlars to retain. Big O and Axel Moros would try to interfere but Alan Hunter would fend them off with a chair. This allowed Sweet Daddy D to pin Vlars following a super kick.
-Following the match, Alan Hunter would join SDD in the ring while Vlars regrouped with the other members of the Bash Brothers on the floor. Orville Newton would appear and it looked like he was joining forces with the Bash Bros, only to slide in the ring and help Hunter and SDD to fend the bullies off and send them backing up the entrance ramp to close up the show. (Sweet Daddy D now has 9 points)
December 23, 2018 Show:
-The whole show had a Christmas theme with Brutus Smith dressed up as Santa Claus and handing out gifts to the children in attendance.
-Krak ‘n Mack would defeat the Moondogs when Kraken pinned Buster following a power bomb. (Krak ‘n Mack now have 1 point)
-Kurt Thomchuk would defeat Philly Cheese Snake 2-1 in a Best of 3 Falls Match, winning the deciding fall by pinfall, using the ropes for leverage. It was announced after the match he would challenge for the PWGP Wings of Icarus Title at PWGP “Glory Road: Battle Bowl II”. (Thomchuk now has 1 point)
-Robbie “Red” Baron would defeat Zaros to become the new PWGP Wings of Icarus Champion, pinning the goblin with a Crucifix Driver. The WoI Title Match at “Battle Bowl II” will now be a Triple Threat Match between Baron, Thomchuk and Zaros.
-The fourth, and final member of the PWGP Hall of Fame Class of 2019, is current PWGP International Tag Team Champion, Brutus Smith. Smith has allegedly competed for over 50 years, although no one seems willing to confirm or deny this, even though photos during his video package would suggest their might be some truth to his. Brute stood up from his chair, where he had been listening to children tell him what to ask Santa to bring them, and waved at the crowd while they gave him a standing ovation.
-The Bash Brothers attacked Orville Newton prior to the next scheduled match, but security broke up the attack before any true damage could be done.
-Sweet Daddy D defeated Big O with a roll-up to successfully defend the PWGP Television Title after Orville Newton distracted his former partner and SDD rolled Big O for the pin. (Sweet Daddy D now has 11 points)
-This led to Alan Hunter and Orville Newton facing Axel Moros and Vlars. Both SDD and Big O would be sent to the back before the match, but Big O would sneak back out near the match’s conclusion. The Bash Bros would pick up the pinfall victory when Moros hit the Rolling DVD after Big O knocked Newton off the top rope. (Moros and Vlars now have 1 point)
-Following the match, all three members of the Bash Bros celebrated on the floor and told Alan Hunter they weren’t done with him.
-It was announced that Sweet Daddy D had vacated the PWGP Television Championship and would challenge The Technician for the PWGP Global Title at “Battle Bowl II”.
-BOB, now managed by Tony Columbo, defeated PWGP Global Champion, The Technician, in a non-title match following a big splash. Sweet Daddy D would appear and make sure that Tech didn’t use his loaded boot during the match, leading to the finish. (BOB now has 5 points due to the non-title win)
-A Christmas Battle Royal closed up the show, featuring wrestlers from both PWGP and MLWA. MLWA Champion, Bryant Adam Thompson would win, last eliminating Faititili. Afterwards he promised that MLWA would do the same thing in two weeks at “Glory Road: Battle Bowl II”.
-Following the main event, Brutus Smith, who had not participated in the battle royal, got into the ring and tossed Thompson over the top rope and on to his fellow MLWA wrestlers to close up the show and send everyone home happy.
December 30, 2018 Show:
-No live program for this installment. Just a year in review program, going back and looking over the year that was. Year End Awards were handed out throughout the evening.
-”Rookie of the Year” went to Zaros. He accepted the award and promised to regain the Wings of Icarus Championship at “Glory Road: Battle Bowl II”.
-”Most Improved Wrestler” went to the former Goober the Gooker, Kurt Thomchuk. He went on a long tirade about how he deserved this award and promises next year at this time we will be receiving the award for “Wrestler of the Year”.
-”Manager of the Year” went to The Guru. He never got the opportunity to give his speech, as Saul Asper and many of the members of the MLWA roster tried to invade the proceedings, with Asper being very vocal about how it should be him winning this award. This led to a standoff between members of not only Asper’s Army and The Guru’s Family, but members of both the PWGP and MLWA locker rooms as well.
-”Most Liked” went to Alan Hunter, who seemed humbled by the honor and promised to continue represent his fans and PWGP to the best of his abilities.
-“Most Hated” went to Deedee Gagnon. The treacherous former assistant to Robert Fredrick, turned “Invading Army” Co-Leader, turned up to receive the award but wasn’t allowed into the PWGP Exhibition Centre. She was outraged that she had to make her speech out in the cold Winnipeg winter night and stormed off with her plaque.
-”Match of the Year” was the Global Title Match between Eli Buchanan and Kraken from April 4, 2018 at the first titled “Glory Road” event. Buchanan and Kraken accepted their awards separately. Buchanan accepted his via video message from his home in Guelph, Ontario, while Kraken shouted at the screen for two minutes in French before storming off with his plaque.
-”Tag Team of the Year” went to the East K Connection, Sweet Daddy D and Easy E, who had an incredible 2018 as a tag team. Easy E’s arm was in a sling from his recent surgery and promised he would be back by the summer. He wished Sweet Daddy D good luck when he faces the Technician for the PWGP Global Title next week at “Battle Bowl II”.
-Finally, “Wrestler of the Year” went to PWGP’s first ever Global Champion, and the individual who won the 2018 Battle Bowl, Eli Buchanan. Once again we’re greeted by a pre-recorded message from Eli in Guelph. He apologizes for not being there in person to receive either of his awards but wishes everyone the best of luck next week at “Glory Road: Battle Bowl II”, putting his support firmly behind PWGP.
-The show concludes with the hosts, Loco and Nick Christoulos, thanking the fans for all their support throughout 2018. They plug “Glory Road: Battle Bowl II” one more time, which will be at the Pollo Hall in downtown Winnipeg on January 5, 2019 and the PWGP Hall of Fame ceremony, which will be held earlier at that same date right here in the PWGP Exhibition Centre. Tickets for both events are still on sale. Loco and Christoulos wish us all a Happy New Year and sign off just as a signal is cut off the words “MLWA Forever” fill the screen.
