*Author’s Note: In an effort to catch up due to outside events in my life, I will be doing an abbreviated version of the show.*
The February 3, 2019 episode of PWGP CHARGE went as followed:
MATCH 1
The show opened with Quack Attack (Ricky, Dicky and Nicky) facing off against The Unknowns 1, 2 & 3. The Quackers would win in relative quick fashion, finishing off Unknown 2 with the Marsh Dive (a version of The Colony’s Anthill from CHIKARA), with Nicky picked up the pin.
-After the match they trio were interviewed by Laura Heeley at ringside and stated they were looking forward to wrestling in PWGP and had their sights on championship gold.
MATCH 2
Moondog Buster successfully defended the PWGP Television Title against Vod of Surf ‘n Turf. The other members of Surf ‘n Turf, Zaros, Land Shark and Gertrude Quest, would try to interfere during the match. Moondog Runt and “Nightmare” Teddy Davis would fight them off, allowing Buster to pick up the pinfall victory with a a school boy. Still PWGP Television Champion: Moondog Buster (8 points)
-Laura Heeley tried to get comments from BUAC Spokesman Robert Fredrick about tonight’s main event for the PWGP Global Title. They would be interrupted by Saul Asper’s Army who demanded rematches for the MLWA* Championships they lost last week. Fredrick agreed to schedule the Agents of Pain’s rematch for the MLWA Tag Team Titles for later this evening but wouldn’t grant Thompson his rematch on the grounds of his attack on Faititli last weeks. Instead he would have to wait as Faititli would receive his shot at Sweet Daddy D and and championship next week, which didn’t sit well with Asper’s Army.
MATCH 3
A ten man tag team match featuring the stars of the Wings of Icarus division was next. WoI Champion, Kurt Thomchuk would team with Zaros, Land Shark, Paulie Rod and Jeremy Squire against Robbie Baron, Moondog Buster, Red Tiger Kid, Firefly and Asterio. The winning team would all receive individual title shots for the WoI Championship. The match would end in a no contest when Thomchuk attacked everyone with his title to prevent anyone from winning.
-Following the match Robert Fredrick would announce that everyone in the match would receive a shot at the Wings of Icarus Title and starting next week, and for the next nine weeks, the title would be defended every week until all the competitors received their shot.
MATCH 4
Jin Hirai and the debuting Aozora Kiyonaga would defeat PWGP International Tag Team Champions, The Brute Squad (Son of Brute and Mini Brute) in non-title action. Kiyonaga pinned Mini Brute following a diving headbutt. Because of the win, Hirai and Kiyonaga have earned an automatic 3 points and will challenge for the PWGP International Tag Team Titles next week.
-Laura Heeley interviewed PWGP Global Champion, The Technician about his title match in tonight’s main event. Tech firstly wished The Guru a speedy recovery, who is fighting pneumonia and unable to be here tonight. Tech stated that he hated being locked up in a cage with BOB but he was the Global Champion because he was the smartest man in the company and he would prove it again tonight.
MATCH 5
Strange Brew (True North Ant and Philly Cheese Snake) successfully defended the MLWA Tag Team Titles against The Agents of Pain (Agents B & D). Philly would pin Agents B following the Red River Dip (Black Tiger Driver/Neckbreaker combo) to retain the titles.
-Following the match The Pimp and Shrimp Connection (MANDINGO and Capt Gill Baits) appeared on stage and appeared interested in getting a title match.
-After the break, “High Five” Jimmy Jive would come down to the ring with the help of his son, James Daniels. Jive stated his injuries from the attack two weeks ago were worse than doctors had thought and he was retiring from pro wrestling. He stated he was now simply James Daniels Sr. and gave his wrestling moniker to his son to keep the name alive. The younger Daniels accepted but the touching moment was interrupted by The Bash Brothers (Axel Moros, Vlars and Big O) who threatened to attack both men. Alan Hunter and a bandaged up Orville Newton would come down to ringside through the crowd and helped the Daniels to chase the Bash Bros off.
-Before the main event Laura Heeley interviewed BOB and his manager Tony Columbo about the main event. Columbo promised that The Technician would for everything he’s put BOB through, stating Tech and his associates had treated BOB like an animal instead of a human being. Tonight, Tony promised, we would see a new PWGP Global Champion crowned.
MATCH 6
The main event saw the PWGP Global Title being defended for the first time ever in a twenty foot high steel cage. The only way to win was by pinfall, submission or escaping the cage with both feet hitting the floor. The Technician was unwilling to get in the cage to defend his Global Title against BOB, which led to the wildman chasing him around the ring and finally inside of it. With the door locked BOB would stalk the champion, preventing him from escaping on multiple occasions when he tried to climb out of the cage. After being tossed around and bruised by the Green-Faced Goliath, Tech was able to take advantage after sending a charging BOB head first into the cage. Rather than try to escape though, Tech would spend the next several minutes choking BOB with the ropes and trying his best to humiliate him. Despite claiming to be the smartest man in the company, Tech failed on several opportunities to escape from the cage in an effort to further hurt BOB and when he went for the piledriver it finally caught up to him and BOB was able to back drop him right into the cage. A very angry BOB would toss the Global Champion into the cage several times and nearly took his head off with a running kick. BOB would go for a flying splash from the top rope, but Tech managed to roll out of the way just in time. This allowed the champion to finally hit the piledriver. Tech would produce a set of handcuffs from inside a turnbuckle cover and would cuff the dazed big man to the cage. He was then able to escape the cage through the door and was declared the winner.
-Following the match, The Technician couldn’t help but brag over his victory at ringside. Inside the cage an angry BOB managed to break the free himself by snapping the handcuffs. He would try to come after Tech, but the champion would slam the cage in his face. Tech would load up his supposed orthopaedic boot and climb into the cage to use it on BOB but BOB would block the kick. BOB would rip the boot off and use it to batter Tech with, leaving him a bloody, beaten mess inside the ring. As he left the ring, Alan Hunter would run down to the ring. The two former rivals would stare at each other for a moment before Hunter passing him and entering the cage. He told referee Andrew Roller that he was cashing in his Golden Opportunity that dated back to co-winning the Three Kings Tournament and the cage door was locked.
MATCH 7
The second Global Title match of the evening was a quick affair. Alan Hunter would climb to the top rope and hit a Swanton Bomb and quickly covered Tech for the three count and to become the new PWGP Global Champion.
-The show would end with Alan Hunter climbing to the top of the cage to celebrate with the Global Title. Meanwhile Anniversary Cup Winner, Axel Moros and the other Bash Brothers watched on from a monitor in the back and whispered to one another, clearly setting their eyes on making Hunter’s reign a short one.
-The next show will feature Sweet Daddy D defending the MLWA Title against Faititili and Kurt Thomchuk must make the first of his nine weekly title defenses of the Wings of Icarus against Land Shark. In the meantime, and in between time… Good night, God bless and may the Force be with you!
*MLWA here stands for “Maple Leaf Wrestling Alliance”, and not “Maple Leaf Wrestling Association” which was formerly known as Lions Road Pro-Wrestling.
